Smoother transition between hyperspace, supercruise and normal speed

Hi,

I don't know if it's only me, but when changing from supercruise to normal speed, it take around 5 seconds and nothing move... Could be great to get something smoother like you continue to move, but you are slowing down very very fast. Same from Hyperspace to supercruise. I know that they are adding the sun in the futur update, but I think it can be improved much more.

For example, the transition between 0:32 (where the sun is still very small) and 0:33 is very weird. I think the sun should be almost invisible first (depending on how close you are in LY) and when you come close it become bigger until you arrive.

Also in this video around 7:00 you can see that the transition is not smooth at all.

Whatever, I enjoy the game very much... Just thinking about some improvements :)

Ya I have to agree. If they added a little movement or something it would be cool. Oh Let not forget entering in Planetary systems or exiting it.

It does seem to be something they are moving towards. Glide allows us to continue travelling towards our destination, & 2.2 will show us getting closer to our destination star. I suspect the next step will be making the dropout at stations/outposts more like dropping out at settlements.

I've been talking about this since early alpha. They did add a minor movement when you exit supercruise to go down to a planet, but there's nothing when exiting supercruise at stations. Just before release they did add the little thing where the station "zooms in" after dropping out. This used to be just the station "appearing" without any movement at all.

I'd still love to see the whole network negotiation being done ahead of time. I've been profiling this and most of the delay stems from the various network stuff that's going on. If they could start that while the ship is still moving, we could get really close to a seamless transition.

10000x yes. the transitions are so immersion breaking it defies description. it heavily relies on server performance too, so at peak hours you can stay way longer at a static location. funnily enough though, i actually observed that the game keeps running while you make the transition from super cruise to normal cruise. you can see other ships continue flying. so, i don't know what it needs to make the transitions more smooth. maybe it's just a graphical thing. star citizen does this way better btw.

what i like is the gliding mechanic during planetary landings. this totally has a place in normal space as well. smooth out the super cruise -> normal cruise transition with this mechanic. maybe it could help if you were able to drop out of supercruise a lot more early and then approach a station for example through the space gliding. now the station is right in your face and appears from out of nowhere. if you exit super cruise 1ls away from the station, you'd only see a dot and through the space glide it would grow smoothly and obviously more quickly.

i'm a big fan of this idea. :D hope fd reads this.

The solution could be easy.

Instead of having two instances in a system, we should get only one. Like that there will not be weird transition between SuperCruise and Normal speed.

Ok I got the right idea.

From HyperDrive to SuperCruise

Currently, the HyperDrive effect is acting like a loading screen in the background, so when exiting everything is loaded.
Whatever, to get a better and smoother effect showing the ship coming closer to the system sun, the idea is simple. When everything is loaded, don't exit right away, but wait like 5 seconds. This picture is showing how it could be done. So the ship is exiting "loading" mode further to the star, so we can simulate the sun coming.

From SuperCruise to Normal

Here SuperCruise exit also act like a loading screen. The solution could be that when you are close to your destination ideal exit speed, it should pre-load the scenery, so when you exit, it's instant and you could get a small effect of being closer to station/planet/moon.

Another solution could be to make a system fully loaded. Instead of two differents instance, it should be one.

PS: What's weird about SuperCruise exiting animation (loading screen) is that you can still see other ships moving normally lol. So it's not a server issue, but an in-game issue.

PS2 : I would like to know how Star Citizen can achieve a full galaxy without any loading screen.
