Smuggling - Avoiding scan LEAVING station

Dear fellow smugglers,

since I tasted the riches of smuggling I'm quite keen on doing more of it. While I've gotten pretty ok to avoid scans getting into a station, I've not figured out what do to avoiding them going out, before SCing. I could drop heat sinks & chaff but as there's only so many to carry I'd like to avoid that.

What's your advise- silent running going out?

Thanks!

Hm. Must have had a stroke of bad luck. Got scanned twice in a row on my way out with the same approach. Ah well, no risk no fun right?
Tnx!

Boost through the mailslot, boost, boost, supercruise. Works every time for me (Python).
Pretty much - I stay below 100 until I can see on scanner and through mailslot that it's all clear ahead, then put 4 pips into engines and boost away until outside masslock.

Do NOT turn to face your jump vector immediately after leaving the station, especially if it's perpendicular to the station axis. The cops patrol around the perimeter close to the station, so anything but a straight path outwards will bring you closer to them.

Yeah, just boost boost boost - more often than not you can avoid the scan finishing, even if it's started. Keep an eye on the scanner making sure you're not boosting _towards_ the cops though.

BUT, I'd like to ask you a question... where exactly smuggling is profitable for you? I mean even in Archon's systems, profit is back to below normal trading now after the double nerf. I'd love to smuggle, but it - again - is less profitable than normal trading, so .....

Yepers. Just straight out of the mass lock, then jump.

You'll get scanned faster if you're not friendly with the faction owning the station, that might explain you being scanned.

Very true indeed but they never scanned me boosting. I seem to remember having 'scan detected' once but nothing happened.

Smuggling missions from the bulletin board can offer anywhere from 50k to 150k to smuggle just a few tons of cargo, and you can frequently pick up multiple missions to the same system - earlier today I had four smuggling missions and two regular cargo-transport missions all picked up from the same BB to the same destination system, totalling well over 500k credits, and that was just with a 24-ton cargo capacity. For a run taking just a few minutes, that's easy money.

I've had this problem myself before. I wait just inside the mail slot and then, as others have said - 4 pips to engines, boost all the way. I will say that silent running helps if you're particularly concerned about being scanned. Sometimes when I don't want to go silent running I turn off all my modules except power reactor and thrusters - that seems to lower my profile enormously. Remember to turn them back on again when you're in a safe spot.

Depends on the ship i use for the task at hand. Courier and Clipper its just a matter of speed, and both are very well suited for that. In the rare cases i smuggle with my Conda, i have a Heatsink Launcher installed. I close in to 7,5km, request Docking Clearance, Boost, Boost, pop Heatsinks (usually one or two are enough) until you are in or close to in. Exit pretty much the same. Either pure Speed or combined with Heatsinks, but always in a straight line.

It's not massively profitable- I run a route with Gold one way for 1,5k profit and Imp Slaves back for about 2,5k-2,7k so all in all it's ok. To be honest, I just do it for the extra kicks as I'm bored to death running from A-B-A for hours and hours doing... nothing. This adds a bit of spice and if I get a fine (I get fined 800k usually) it's not going to massively hurt me.

Wasted 1 hour of flying back loaded....got scanned right at first station...10 KM AWAY from station!!!!!! how the F police flies 10 km from station instead of right next to it like always....... if police flying now randomly anywhere between 1-15KM arround station smuggling is useless due to failure upon scan. period. those 2-4mln snuggling missions i knew something is fcked up with them...can't be that easy...when police AI is rewamped in horizons....

As soon as i exited cruise into station 2 seconds in scan occured...never experienced this lol, so i laughed bad when staring at 10 failed shadow missions.....and its not a port...it's those tiny stations that has no shipyards....anyways scanning before you can even request to dock is something new.

My advice: put this track on...

Put 4 pips in engine, find a clear part of the mail slot to aim for and boost boost boost!

Works everytime! :D (Oh, and make sure it's a fast ship, something that can boost 400/ms+ will be fine)

To OP - what are you flying? If too slow you don't stand much chance. ASP is probably the best long range smuggler. Cobra best short to mid range.

If you don't really care about being too honest, choose to launch and then exit to Main Menu and then Restart Game. Takes a few seconds and places you way outside the station range.

In horizons security comes to u to scan right after u exit cruise to station. Ull be scanned before 8km to station. Boost boost boost into failed missions that is :)))

Initiate undock. log off, log back it - you are in space and 7km away from station.
Its magic! :p

Call it exploit if you like, but taking how badly game balance broked lately in Elite, personally i have no problem using any exploits i can found :p

Really? I have done about 30 mil worth of smuggling missions since Horizons and I've never been scanned once whilst doing this. Not once.

And also, the OP said "leaving" the station, no one asked about going to the station.
