So; 40,000,000 donation missions are a thing now...

Funny how this forum is "a tiny and unrepresentative fraction of the ED player-base"

I agree, White Knigths always use this pathetic attempt to invalidate common opinions.
The two biggest communities of Elite Dangerous are this forum and reddit.
Unless differently demonstrated, the percentage of consensum of these two communities is applicable to the percentage of consensum of all players.
Why? Because we're all from different cultures, countries, ages and so on. The only thing in common is that we play the same game. So we're various and spread enough to represent (all together) all Elite Dangerous players.
This is how statistics work and this is how the world is ruled. Even in medicine, this is how they analize your blood... or does anyone expect they suck out all blood from your body, put 5 litres of blood under the microscope and then they put it back in your body?
If anyone feels entitled to demonstrate something different please provide accurate evidence and numbers.

I dunno, I would suggest forums and places like Reddit are likely to be heavily weighted to a certain type of player,
The kind of player not interested in massivley multiplayer stuff, or online communities and just wants to get home from school/work fire up their machine for an hr or so and play either alone or with a couple of real world friends are far more likely to be under represented on social media and forums.

I kind of have a foot in both camps because on 1 hand i really dislike social media - twitter, facebook or what ever... and I dont post on reddit.

OTOH am a fairly (annoyingly?) vocal member of these forums......

on the whole when it comes to most games however (ED is an exception) I dont post on specific video games forums and am far more in the single player / multiplayer with real world friends camp. On any other game that is not elite dangerous, the game poliitics would go over my head too.

I am more invested in elite dangerous because it is elite.

Important in game issues should be reported in game some how imo. I feel the same is true about instructions and tools for use in the game. It is a huge weakness of ED imo that it practically relies / demands the use of external tools, forums and guides to work out what the hell is going on.

I think FD are right to try to make the game clearer to new players, I just think they need to do it by in game guides and instructions and NOT by simplifying / dumbing down the actual gameplay.

Gotta say, I always think FDev should do more to lean into the whole "forum" thing.

I know some people insist that everything about ED should referenced somewhere in ED but the simple fact is, that's unrealistic.
Sure, you can provide basic information within the game but it's just not reasonable to expect the game to be able to provide the same level of information that websites such as INARA, EDDB or Coriolis provide.

That being the case, ED is always going to be one of those games where it'll provide an advantage to do a bit of googling and do a bit of reading.

Like I say, I think FDev should lean into this, rather than trying to circumvent it.
If it was up to me, I'd seriously think about putting a tab in the Station UI called, perhaps, the "social area" which opens an in-game browser and links directly to this place - possibly to a dedicated sub-forum which includes a pinned threads linking to various Youtube tutorials, useful websites, add-on app's and perhaps even to FDev's own Youtube channel (for whatever that's worth).

Point is, it's just never going to be possible to provide all the useful information about ED within ED, itself, so rather than attempting to do that, it'd be better if FDev tried to incorporate this forum, and other useful websites, into the canon of the game's resources.

I did not read the forums but have seen such missions in the game. I even wished to pay to see what linked mission it will produce. And it looked like a bug: I have credits, reputations but can't accept the mission. Can't we get some mission description like "this is not a real mission, this is workaround for the softlock. Fly safe cmdr! o7".
No that would mess their muh immershun just as much as a different color button did

On topic, I dunno why FDev didn't just label these missions - in-game - as "Update Workarounds" and have a mission description explaining why they're there and advising people NOT to actually take them.
But you can't actually take them as I understand it. People are upset that they can't; they're like the people in the test lab looking at the big red button with "Don't Press!" on it.

Missions are more than FD realises, methinks. Have spotted a couple of 'go buy us x gold & bring it back' missions, you'd make a loss if you took them. Being a betting man, I'll wager there's more messed up stuff than this going on with missions at the moment.

Edit to add: Like this one....
