So a little late to the party - about thargoid link and unknown signals

Hey all, pretty new to the game and I thought I'd have a look around to see what the deal is with these thargoids.

Initially just going around for materials but found an ammonia world with a thargoid probe, which I gathered was meant to slot into a thing on some surface site. One thing led to another (and a bit of panicking about module corosion in between :D ) and now I have these unknown signals sitting in my inbox.

Now from what I understand you're supposed to play these to the thargoid links after you jettison one in space, so I nabbed one on the way out and sure enough it activates and glows blue after playing one. However from what I've seen on videos on the subject they're supposed to play a binary audio code after activating but I haven't heard it spit out any discerneable sequence from any of the three messages I have. Now I know this is old content and all of this is already discovered, but it seemed fun to try out and now I'm stumped on how to proceed.

So my question is, do these links still work and output an audio code I can decypher? Or are some of the unkown signals simply dead ends?

Sidenote: Can I store this cargo somehow? Don't want to fit corrosive resistant racks on other ships but I want to keep these things to play around with later. :)

For info on finding and decoding the signal try here: https://canonn.science/codex/the-unknown-link/

The signal is very narrow - you need to be right in front of the 'bowl' with the 'spike' pointing at your ship - look at the video on that page and it will give you an idea of what you are listening for - takes a bit of practice!

And the links are still being used - every Thursday there are new messages as part of the evolving Eagle Eye puzzle - you can play along with the decoding if you like: https://canonn.science/codex/eagle-eye-installations/

The decoding is usually tracked on this forum thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/413096-New-Things-in-Pleiades-Sector-IR-W-D1-55

As for storage... no, you need CRCR if you want to keep them. I use an alt account with CRCR, or else it's reasonably easy to find new items nowadays (though I always get through a stack of Links when decoding them).
