So about that focused feedback thing...

I like the new engineering system, I really do. But, if you read through the focused feedback forum, there is one point that comes up fairly often: The ways to gather mats! Nobody is interested to sit in super cruise for an hour and wait for a USS to pop up...because it's tedious and boring.

So...are there going to be any changes to that? If collecting all the needed stuff is interesting, engaging, funny, challenging,... the exact way, how the engineering system works would be secondary.
Just my humble opinion.

This will be affected by the material traders. You no longer only find things by farming, you can now trade up on materials to remove those roadblocks caused by RNG having an off day like in the old system.

That is of course correct, however to trade you still need Materials. And afaik you can only trade mats of the same kind, so there is still need to farm them.

That is not correct.
The material trader only allows for direct "progress" on the material kind.
You cannot exchange heat vanes for chemical destilleries.

You can only upgrate heat stuff within the progression as example.
This does not remove the forcing of players to take part in every aspect of the game,
nor does it remove the base grind.
It just addresses the issue of wasting time with RNG for a single item
in the progression line, if you have enough of the base materials.

Probably changing in the Q4 update with the new scanning and exploration update.

Yeah, they should have simply added a button to give you the stuff you need, am I rite? How about a menu requesting a completely engineered module?

Concerning the mats trader. If the numbers stay the same as in the livestream, you will need 1296 Grade1 mats to get 1 Grade5. And since you can only hold 100 mats of each type in the new system, you will only be able to get 2xG3 and 4xG2 mats before you have to go out and fetch more G1. So trading your way to G5 from the bottom is not a very happy scenario imo.

absolutely not what this post was about..

It is. Unless you wanted to say something different, in that case you should've said something different. ;)

You said that the problem with the broker is that you still need materials and that there would be still the need to farm them. The only alternative to that is the removal of materials = a button that gives you a completey engineered module = what Komemiute said = exactly what your post was about.

The post was about how to farm mats, not if we have to. Farming Mats should (as mentioned in my OP) interesting. Nobody ever said anything about getting stuff without having to do anything.

Low grade materials are almost hard to avoid finding, so you can literally do anything other than looking for mats and still be able to engineer.

Some of those grade 5 materials have a 1:27 ratio with low grade ones. Meaning with 100 material storage you only get 3 materials in return, which isn't enough in most cases to do a single upgrade.

You are working on an unrealistic premise, that of only using grade 1 mats.

Do you deliberately throw all grade 2, 3, 4 and 5 mats away when you find them? If you do, then quite honestly you deserve the self inflicted misery you get by playing that way!

That's where the material broker comes in.

Yes, but: You want Material X? You still need Material Y to trade. Gathering of Material Y still stays the same as it is now, which is not very engaging. That is basically the point I was trying to make. And as far as I know you can't trade any material with any other.

I don't see a single part where he asks for engineered modules to just be given to him. I DO see where he says finding the materials is a bit tedious and was asking if THAT specifically was gonna be improved (not removed completely, just made to be more fun)..

Thanks, exactly that!^

Actually both ends of the current system is problematic, because it is too random and not challenging or rewarding enough.

And then of course I see some of the usual suspects coming in to twist his words and make it sound like he's being unreasonable.

On this forum never.....'

On topic, the more I read about the new changes the more lost I get.

This is what I was wondering about, I like the idiea of tradeing X to make Y and I know you can only do certain things with the broker who is for that mat type, but the above seems a odd way of doing it, I thought the changes was to make enginers more appealing to use.

Not sure I care though as it is what it is and going on the huge amount of feedback on the feedback forums that was ignored by FD its not going to change or it is but only in the way FD want it to.

Hey its thier house and yeah I know no one is holding a gun to my head saying Lok you must grind this bio waste till you canna grind no more...

Oh yeah? Ok then- what would you suggest?
Because a lot you read on forums is "This should be better".

How?

"Well, I have no idea- just better"

Great... I'm sure the developer will now move the "fun" slider more to the right under the "Gathering material menu bar". /rolleyes
