So about those new Ice Planets...

I'm referring to the new Community Update...
Yeah it really sucks that we have to stay for almost another year (yes 2nd quarter of 2020 could be up to August 2020 and you all know we'll get there!) without new contents. Damn it really sucks!!! That's a big pill to swallow.
But yeah... the game really needs a good ground for the "NEW ERA" so this change of direction is welcome on my side too..

But there's one damn thing that I still don't understand...
Why ICE PLANETS have completely disappeared from Frontier Radar??? Why they never make a single reference to this delayed feature?

I fail to see why everyone is so obsessed with ice planets. Did you all grow up as Frozen fans or something?

If you had read the original announcement regarding the 2020 update it mentioned that the ice planet "tech" was being rolled into the 2020 update.

Would you mind to link that announcement? I can't find it

It was supposed to be part of Beyond 3.3 update (so released last December), but it was delayed together with Fleet Carriers, but unlike these we never received any further information unfortunately.
Image right up in the corner is an in-game rendering presented at Lavecon 2018. The other 2 images are FDEV artistic concept.

Ice Planets are just the most common type of planet in ED galaxy and apart from that they are also the most boring type of planets, so yes an improvement to these would be very welcome for explorers

I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who fails to see the attraction - they're barren by definition, right?

Don't know about others, but I come from the land of ice and snow, from the midnight sun where the hot springs flow..

Thus, anything cold/snow/ice related is dear to my heart and important to me. Not to mention, most of the icy worlds look like plastic.

Well, what if they did?

If there's still no Gameplay on these Planets then, only few will occasionally head down for a few Screenshots.
Environment is nice - but nearly worthless without Gameplay.

Now if Players could build personal and custom Bases in hand-picked scenic locations and start tiny Settlements from there that they can grow....
Well, then sexy could indeed meet Gameplay. Totally speculative if they'll ever do, though.

Like them or not, it's still a piece of information missing from the big picture.
I'm not looking for a release date, I would like to know why they don't talk about these anymore.

Because Ice planets are rather ugly looking right now. Main difference between them and other type of planets is rather poor quality retexture.
As a fan of driving on planets I was really waiting for this. I tend to avoid Ice planets now, as they are sooo bland.

Imma just point out that Q2 2020 ends in June 2020. At worst we'll need to wait an extra 6 months (on top of the original 12 month delay) before we can buy carriers.

Yeah, it sucks. I was looking forward to picking up a carrier, but now I've got more time to build up as many credits as I think I might need so eh.

I do agree that any future updates will need a solid (re: very few bugs) base to work from, especially if they are going to be as big as FDev is saying they will be.

I honestly have no idea where the ice planet rework went. It might be coming as part of the new era, but at this point your guess is as good as mine.

The new ice planets, like all the nice things, are all located in the COL-70 locked sector, reserved for future gameplay due to be released in 2054.
