So basically there is no security in space?

Is there a spec of space that ISNT inhabbited by menacing pirates? No matter where and when you go, you get interdicted by pirates! ALL. THE. TIME. EVERYTIME!
Its getting to my nerves. Its not like its EVER a surpise, its more like. "Oh there it is, little late arent ya?"
Im not looking for a 100% safe route, dont think those excists. But i really dont like a 100% pirate infested route either. EVERYTIME! No matter where i am. There they are. Pop, pop, pop. I feel like the A.I is constantly following me. Never alone for more than 5 seconds. POP, there is the stalker A.I.
Im THIS close to getting a fighter, start shooting at EVERYTING I SEE until i dont bother anymore. This is what it must feel like to be a trader in Libya. Then there is the horrible scaling when it comes to trading, when i change location its like im leaving my experience behind at the previous workplace. Thats what it feels like. Coming to a new station they demand you working for the minimum wage even though you have a year of experience. So if i leave to another station again, i have to work up my rep again sort of. Delivering potatos for 5000 cr. YAY! Or find a black box and get 10000 cr. YAY! When i just came from a place that gave me 5x more per mission!? Yeah ok, the new guys at the new station may not know me and that. But i thought experience came with the pay? Bulletin missions scaling completely sucks . I dont feel like leaving the station i am now because starting up a new game at a new station earning close to nothing is what it feels like. NOPE. Im just gonna stay here at my station where the money is properly scaled to my level and ship. Im in T-7 and when i come to stations that dont know me. They tend to pay what you would pay a kid running around the docks to clean up the fish debris.
*Siiiigh* Changing station... naaaw. I might as well start a new game!!!!

Weird.
I'm not interdicted all the time at all.
It is quite rare for me and it depends on the systems I am in, and the missions I take on.

Yes, security is a joke. The solution: Arm yourself. It has worked for me so far, now I'm in a conda set up for trading. The first thing I did with it was to arm it to the teeth.

I get interdicted much less often when I have guns, and sometimes, when I feel like defending myself instead of running, I even use them. They work pretty well.

NPC Interdictions - Hard facts and Statistics!

Space is big and dark, lots of room for monsters. Fortunately, if you are in a system with some security, the cops do show up...just gotta survive until then.

Ok, i might have been really unlucky. I did change location but only with 2-5 jumps. I'll try and search some more for calmer waters.

I get interdicted much less often when I have guns, and sometimes, when I feel like defending myself instead of running, I even use them. They work pretty well.

I was thinking about that myself yesterday. I tried fitting a shield gen on my T-7 but it says my "hull is too heavy."
After some research i found out i probarbly have to ditch one of my 16 slots cargo holds. Meeeeh... thats a tough one but i probarly should? So i can defend myself at least against bad A.I.

max cargo and no defense vs slightly less and being able to defend yourself. It's a choice you make... if you could choose max cargo and no defense and being totally secure, why would anyone pay you to space truck goods for a profit?

Now granted, it's only recently that the npcs have grown some baby teeth enough to actually force a player to think about equipping guns but that's due to the continual evolution of the ai and game mechanics. You should only expect it to get more challenging as they continue to fix things as it was never intended for you to be running around space with no weapons or shields and make gobs of credits.

You know what, im gonna get a shield and guns for my T-7. Its not like im hauling a full load each time anyways. You see, i highly enjoy finding well paid missions on the BB. And rarely do they fill my ship up. Also I did once meet an A.I controlled T-7 that seemed to be armed to the teeth. The bullets where continously streaming into one single target, reminding me of the ending in Matrix 3, when the drones come through the ceeling. :) So i have always had that in the back of my head. Besides, i might be a better fighter than a trader. Whenever i finally find a route after 30 mins... i come at a loss. So theres that. :)

There shouldn't be (but often are) pirates floating about Permit systems (like Alioth in Alliance space). The rate is far lower, however. I'm yet to be interdicted by one, though I've interdicted a few myself for the bounty.

if you are sitting in a t-7, but prefer doing missions (mission trading, smuggling), consider an asp. you'll get 64-72-96 cargo out of it, and you have a true multirole.

and see, that you push your reputation with one of the major factions (federation, empire, alliance). get allied with 3 local faction of that major faction. after that, for exampel all federation factions will be allied to you, and you will get the same missions from every federation faction everywhere (scaling to your rank). this is one reason, why a smuggler/ mission-trader will want to be allied with all major factions...

How did you make a T7 if your routes are at a loss???

Hi, i failed arming my T-7 with guns and a shield Gen. Couldnt find the ones i needed. So i did what you suggested. I bought an ASP. Gotta say, i should have done this long ago. I truly enjoy trading but with so little info and sometimes the info you have doesnt grant you income, i find trading tedious and annoying. Therefore i stuck to the BB missions, wich is alot better is an ASP then a T-7. So thanks for that! :)

Space is big and dark, lots of room for monsters. Fortunately, if you are in a system with some security, the cops do show up...just gotta survive until then.

the sad thing is for how long it takes for the cops to show up you either A) already jumped away or B) pirate already killed you.

Its very rare whether on a trading ship or a bounty hunting ship does the police show up on time if at all. Most of the time I kill the interdicting pirate and start charging the fsd when they finally pop into the radar.

Oddly enough however whenever I do assassination work the police are quick to show up to try to kill me on the other hand.

I cant prove this as fact - only tell you what I saw direct correlation to as someone who spends great deal of time trading, and many hours in type 6, 7, 9, cargo asp, cargo python, and cargo anaconda.

type 6, 7, 9 - this one is the most extreme and easy to see (for me) correlation
*whatever pirate FTL rumour system exits to tip them off you and your fat juicy cargo has left on route A to B, there is a direct correlation to frequency of interdiction based on unarmed or armed

my unarmed, unshielded T 6, 7, and 9 attempts were always massively interdicted. Very frequent, pretty much a given is how reliable my expectation got.

armed and shielded, i still got some interdictions, but far, far...way far less.

so i cant prove it, but my sense is the game takes into account some sort of 'combat power' rating based on your ship, aramenets, and perhaps even pilot combat rank.

asp and python cargo spec was less night/day difference than above - maybe because they are combat rated ships, but i did see slight reduction in npc interdiction when armed

anaconda - same thing re unarmed, got lot more interdictions. But armed - i hardly ever get one, i mean i am desperately wanting interdictions so i can amuse myself in routine of trading back and forth to kill an npc pirate but i will do ~2 hours of trade runs and get maybe 1 an hour, so thats like 1 interdiction every 10-12 route segments - barely anything

so arm your trade ship, and accept that for some reason type 6, 7, 9 pulls more interdictions than trade spec asp, python, and anaconda, and unarmed 6,7, 9 is just asking for it. In a way, it seems pretty realistic and smart for the game to be this way. Any player is going to jump a lakon freighter before a python / anaconda. And if they magically knew like npc pirate rumor mill does, theyd wait for you and unarmed freighter too
