NPC Interdictions - Hard facts and Statistics!

I have read your post. Very interesting. If only Frontier would dish out more information about mechanics such as this (of course assuming this is the case which, according to your records suggest so) instead of having to find out by stumbling across it on a thread in these forums. I hope this is the case as it makes sense and could make route planning a viable way to avoid trouble. I will test this out later.

Cheers!

That is your issue right there.
That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Fdev patch notes states they have reduced the chance of running into an Elite NPC but yet I get interdicted by 3 of them within an hour?! I'm starting to NOT believe anything in their patch notes!

Interdictions are something sometimes I could happily not miss ever.

Engineer commodities count for this. So if you are making an effort to collect a few, prepare to get interdicted all the time.
Yes this is true, I wish Frontier could make these commodities "invisible" to NPCs. .... Until we get storage that is.

If I am interdicted and after 1attack my hull is down to 50 and the attacker still has 100% I will try to flee... I think thats normal but the ai fighter fight to the last drop. that does not seen to be right behaving. They have nothing to loose.

I didn't suffer any interdictions at all UNTIL I fitted a cargo rack to my Vulture.
It didn't matter that it was empty. As soon as it was fitted, interdictions galore.
*shakes head disappointedly*

Well if it is the dumbest thing you have ever heard I have news for you. It is also the truth!

I keep a few bits of cargo specifically so I CAN run into these elites all the time.

The biggest problem I have with this is that the moment you carry any cargo you get lots of interdictions, regardless of where you got it from.

How does the AI know that you are carrying any cargo? basically they cheat and this is unrealistic and immersion breaking...

I'll explain:

As a player when you are in supercruise you can scan the other other ships and see if they are wanted or hostile in a system, so same should apply to you, so expect to be interdicted within the system with high frequency.
When a ship has a bounty placed on it then it makes sense that this will be made public (via mission or system bounties list), so if you are wanted elsewhere you should expect to be interdicted, and the frequency should scale with the total size of all your bounties.

The cargo scanner does not work in supercruise, so interdictions should not be scaled at all with whether you are carrying cargo, or what it is. So you should expect occaional random pirate interdictions regardless of whether you have cargo or not. This should be rare and almost always only occur in anarchy systems.
Also, if a pirate interdicts you they should use a cargo scanner on you first to find out if you have cargo.

Within high-sec systems the occasional interdiciton from system security should also occur, but again this should be very infrequent.

The only other thing that should affect the frequency of interdictions is if you take on certain missions and part of the mission involves someone being sent after you.

Have you check the "System Security" level for the systems you fly in?

I did some tests early last year on interdiction rates in High/Medium/Low security systems, here...

Once the dust settles on ED 2.1.x, I hope to redo these tests, to get more up-to-date information.

But security level certainly plays a part. In particular, avoid populated anarchy systems like the plague. Those are just crazy places for NPC trouble. :)

Nice one Captain. I had to rep you for that linked post.

However, I almost didn't rep you because that same linked post has now caused the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation's jingle ("Your plastic pal who's fun to be with") to be stuck in my head. ;)

If you have a bounty, you will get constantly interdicted. Only way to break it is to win the interdiction.
Anarchy systems are bad places to travel as well. More pirate than BH with cargo.

Actually in-system NPCs rarely interdict you, so anarchy or high sec makes very little difference. It's the ambiant NPC which spawn regardless of security status which are a pain.

First 'so boring' of the day. I have only been interdicted once in 2.1 and that was the usual simple jump away. Come to think of it though, I'm out of the bubble collecting exploration data for Felicity...
