(So...) Cleanacondas - and cases of wonky AI.

Hi there.

My initial plan was to just make a little thread about what I've come to call "Cleanacondas". As you may guess from the name, that's an NPC Anaconda that turns out to be Clean when you scan it. Nothing screams "disappointment" to a bounty hunter quite like those.

However, when one specific Anaconda had made up my mind to open a thread to get some light-hearted discussion about Cleanacondas going, something odd happened. System authority attacked said Clean Anaconda, without any provocation on her part whatsoever. Now, I've seen a plethora of cases where some NPC gets hit by some other NPC's stray shot and chaos ensues, everyone goes monkeypoo and innocents start dying all over the place.

However, authority attacking Clean targets who didn't fire any shots at anything at all prior to being attacked is new for me. It only turned Wanted after returning fire.

I also noticed today, a few times actually, that there seems to be a little leeway in stray shots as far as NPCs are concerned. I've been hit by tiny stray shots multiple times by NPCs, without them turning Wanted - and yes, I did have "Report Crimes against me" turned "ON", I double and triple checked. I even intentionally got myself hit by a stray laser to test it further. NPC remained Clean. Sadly, afterwards, one NPC decided to fly through my line of fire and I got an instant bounty, so that's same old, same old.

Have you seen stuff like this happening before?

What are your experiences with wonky AI? And do Cleanacondas make you sad, too?

It may have had illegal/stolen cargo on board. That will cause the police to attack I think, even if clean.

Police didn't even come close enough to do a scan. They went right from a firefight with a different target to the distant Cleanaconda, opening fire as soon as they were within weapons range. My best guess is that it was similiar to how ships will sometimes start shooting you for attacking Wanted ships of their faction. Looked like a case of "Wanted guy A from faction X just had a fight with me. Clean guy B waaay over there is in faction X too. Clearly, after killing guy A it's fine to go kill aaall his friends!"

Also, illegal/stolen cargo is a case for a fine, not a bounty. Even us players don't get shot on sight for smuggling.
