So close I am almost happy...

So after a year of tweaking, buying and more tweaking I am playing ED in a way that Id describe as close to perfect....

I am running at 75hz on max settings with DSR X1.5 and sometimes x2.
I am using sweet effects and have the physx running through the 5960x cpu.
SLI is producing almost no noticeable latency and judder rarely occurs.
I have to admit that its a pretty extreme setup (2x 980s), but I can honestly say that it's been worth it. I feel like I've taken the DK2 as far as it will go, minus VR specific drivers and I feel like im playing on a DK2.5!

This coupled with an x55 and a buttkicker makes this the best gaming experience I have ever had and if VR never advanced any further I could live with this setup.

It really is worth putting the time in to pushing your setup to its maximum, trying every trick, tweak, hack and script edit you can to make things as smooth and clear as possible.

When I play on standard 1080 now with med settings I realise just how much further the DK2 is capable of being pushed. Those who can should make the most of the potential... It makes all the difference! :)

Like you i have the Rhino X55 and the butt kicker system. I also added a Volair Sim chair alone with 5.1 speakers and whenever my friends come over their jaws drop.

/me googles "buttkicker" pulls out credit card

seriously please explain how this benefits??

im surprised you arent using in game 1.5, it is far superior to the DSR.

mind defining your settings a bit?

Like shadows =, AA and Ansio? all in game? Ansio via NVCP? sweet fx?

thanks!

Buttkicker... Vibrations when accelerating and getting shot at = more immersion

My settings are all maxed out in fame (including SMAA), which just looks better even with sweettfx IMO.
I am using DSR X1.5 in game settings as this provides a better graphic experience than using the DSR in NVIDIA control panel. It is very GPU intensive though and even a single 980 can't cope with the same settings.

sorry i was confused, in game is called super sampling. not DSR
just straight hardcore more resolution down sampled.

dsr is nvidias answer to supersampling dynamically

I cant do in game SS, i have to do 1.78-2x DSR, nvcp. dynamic.
doesnt look nearly as good. (single 980)

Yeah it's quite a different experience... Things don't seem to get shrunk as much using the ingame downsampling... It is really very impressive but extremely hardcore. I'd love for them to offer a X1.75 as I think my rig could take it. X2 is slightly too extreme, but I haven't yet begun experimenting with overclocking the cards... Only the CPU.

ohhh dude, your 980 can go from its stock 1300 mhz to 1600 mhz with 1 switch...its way easier than cpu overclocking and done entirely inside windows.

you can do 2x easily with sli 980s OC'd

I with they had about 1.3 Supersample in game, I can handle 1.5 in space, but stations and res no no no.

so id rather not have to switch resolutions around depending on where im playing. but 2x dsr is fine everywhere on a single 980 @ 1600mhz.

is the buttkicker really good though? setup is easy enough? ebay has em for sub $100 for the chair attachment..

Butt kicker is a no brainer :)
I'll give the GPU over clocking some time tomorrow and see where it takes me :) what program would you use? I have the stock NVIDEA cards.

only a few programs,

if you have Zotac, you must use the FIRESTORM (made by them) software

otherwise MSI Afterburner seems to be best for every other card.

you dont even need to over voltage to hit 1550mhz.
just raise the power limit to 120% and set frequency to 1550 and memory to 8000 (or 4000 or 2000 depending on how it shows)
(oh but you have to set the fan to 100% manually, so its running full tilt)

use unigene heaven for a great before and after if you like to see just how far the progress is.

my fps went +30fps when overclocked on a single card

with the extra ~600mhz of processing you will fall over...

Cool... I tried this on my other rig (780 ti) but havent gotten round to the 980s yet.
Will let you know if I get it stable on x2 :)

Have you done any tweaks in the 3d settings in the Nvidia control panel?
I ask because im currently running the Titan X and my game graphics set to ultra, 1920x1080 with no super sampling and still get judder in station and at RES sites. Just curious is all.

whaa? judder with a titanX?

we have not done any major tweaks.

turn ansiotropic off in game and shadows to low. start there.
nvidia cp ansiotropic 16x
DSR in global check 1.78, 2, and higher

then in resolution for hte dk2, click perform scaling on GPU
and select whatever res you want. im running 2x dsr NP with a single 980 overclocked to 1550mhz.

your titan X prob do 2x out of the box without OC.

as for in game settings, i followed the dr ak guide.

Follow the NVIdia settings guide in this VR forum. You should be judder free in station if no DSR. :)

So I overclocked to 1450 this morning on both cards and things are running stable. I play a lot and live in a desert so didn't want to push anymore than that. This setting definately allows the in game super sampling to run smoothly at x2, though I am a good few thousand LY fro mght nearest station, so am unable to test it properly. TBH though there is little visual difference between X1.5 and x2 so I would be happy in the extra boost in FPS allowed me a completely smooth experience in station at X1.5 on max settings.

I'll be back in civilised space in a couple of weeks, so can test properly then.

I have the same setup as you, did all the tweaks. It is indeed an amazing experience. I have not OC'd my cards though. Curious how much more power you get.

Good man :-]

I went the other way. After spending more time tweaking than playing I decided to drop it all and stick with what I had. PLus the % gains you get with this resolution screen just didnt seem worth it.
So I play with it looking fairly good. The colour tweaks and SweetFX made the most difference but the text is still a touch blurry, posh stations and busy RES sites drop my fps into the 60's but overall the game play experience is fine. I can play for several hours at a time.

I see video devices as optical illusions (coz they are) and the brain is pretty good at "filling in the blanks".

Also, I would rather watch a good film on a crappy little black and white portable TV than a rubbish film on a 52" 4K screen.

Plus I will get a massive bonus when the higher rez VR hits :-]

I love VR. It's a bit good.

Didn't benchmark ... But definately see improvement. I could tell when I kicked up the super sampling to x2 and still had no judder.

Ughhh ive been playing a bit of assetto corsa lately its rezlly good but without dsr. Its fugly compared to ED
Frontier rockz the shasbot compared to assetto devs

I decided to OC my gtx 780 ti and it really did make an difference. Prior flying the anaconda with it's long nose was dreadful due to the blurriness but now....just awesome :) 7am and I'm tempted to go back into the game....who needs sleep when there are bounties to collect right?

Edit to prevent double post:

I went and tried the PhysX setting to CPU and the results were just stunning. I was able to do 6 hours in res in a wing without any big issues. And a lot less blur. Think I have hit the sweet spot for my system :)
