So, did something get tweaked?

I've been having a bit of a break from E:D. I got rather despondent after doing a bunch of work on a system I now call home, missions and trading and the like, where no matter what I did nothing changed. I ran tons of missions, saw the little blue arrow floating up on my chosen independent faction, but didn't see ~any~ positive change in my faction influence. Nada, zip, not even +0.1%. No matter how much I smuggled and connived my way round the place.

In fact, the opposite happened, despite actively working against the other factions, they wound up gaining influence and my allies were losing their grip. It was pretty disheartening.

For a solo player, the idea of having some small influence, of being able to see the galaxy actually respond to my actions, no matter how miniscule, is pretty crucial for longevity. There is only so many times I can do a booze and guns run, repeat the same missions, kick around Nav beacons bounty hunting. I got bored, fast.

So, I haven't played in about three months or so. Last night, however, I thought I'd log in, throw on some Chopin, and have a bimble to see what has been up. Imagine my surprise when I notice that the station with the best shipyard and outfitting in my system had ~flipped~ to my faction. Even more impressive, the federation's influence in the region had plummeted.

Did the background model get tweaked in my absence? I mean, I kinda doubt it was other players, considering I ~never~ see any players out my way, although it could have been...... I'd like to believe that the background simulation has been improved though, because that might just make me start playing more often again.

Yes, I seem to remember FD saying that there had been some tweaks to the background simulation. Its probably that you're seeing.

I have to admit though, I think the Powerplay update will probably make a bigger difference when its released.

The background sim is constantly being improved and yes, there has been quite a few tweaks and enchantments to it since release.

You can get a rough idea of how popular a system is by looking at the "traffic report" on a bulletin board there. Areas having a community goal have ~6000 ships passing through every 24 hours. The average populated system has ~120 otherwise.

13 ships passed through in the last 24 hours.

Plus, my faction gained another 1% system influence in the last 24hrs!

Think I'm going to be getting back into the game now :)

I dunno. I think they changed it with .06 by getting rid of a backlog of system state changes, and so civil war/election/expansion would trigger without FD action.

Something since then has borked it I think. I've been working a system for about a week, getting the minor faction influence up. It's been over the controlling faction influence for 3 days now, and nothing has happened.

When I started, my faction was at 19%, and controlling faction at 49%. Two other factions were at 19% and 9%. I did missions and steadily changed things, so now they are at: My faction 37%, controlling at 33%, other two at 16% and 11%. Nothing has happened though. No election, no civil war, nothing. I give up.

Yeah, this is what I was hoping.

That's not so cool. At least the inf is moving though, right?

Do a search for the Mercenaries of Mikunn. They have gathered a ton of info for FDevs and have pretty recent information on the changes. If I remember correctly, you have to get the minor non controlling faction to 70% now to start a civil war. They way it was before that was causing some sort of issues.

Either way, you shouldn't give up yet, but it takes a lot of work to get there.

Good luck!

Ok, but that doesn't make any sense in this case. By the time I do that, the controlling faction will be at 0%. That's a tad late for a civil war or any kind of opposition to what's going on.

I've been hammering Faction missions trying to get a rank mission and I was starting to think the same as you. Then last night one of them actually increased their influence on my watch, due to my mission. It only took dozens of missions to achieve. ;)

It's not linear. Hence why I noted it's not easy, there is a sum of all parts factor.

Gaining influence is a noble cause, but for one pilot to turn a system on it's ear with a few trades?

That wouldn't make sense for a trillion credit space station and the group that has paid for the influence to control that station.

Constant improvements, as my friends above have said. But I'm not entirely sure FD ever intended background simulation to be significantly impacted by an individual. In fact, I'm sure the intent was to require a concerted effort from larger volumes of players.

Ive been working on getting a minor faction into power for the past month or so, they are the second largest.

All this week the influence had been rising, did a number of jobs for the faction yesterday, but the influence for my faction didnt change, instead it went to the third faction!

strange.

It's spies!

i believe they are working on it and that would then also be the reason it gets reset all the time
i expect it to be more dynamic in 3.0 but thats just my expectancy not being based on facts
:)
they should give us something to do right?
