Ah, the Cobra, a legend in its own lifetime. The Mk 3 that is.
But first, let's take a walk down memory lane, and look at the history of this iconic ship.
Mark 1: The Cobra Mk 1 was actually quite a decent ship. Not as good as the more famous Mk 3, but a decent all rounder with enough offense, defense, and cargo space to make it a decent all round ship and cheap enough for fairly new commanders to get early on in their career. However, by 3302 it has long been discontinued.
Mark 2: Just like many film sequels, the even numbers don't always work out too well. The Mk2 was meant to be a better beefier version of the Mk 1 in all ways. However, due to a number of issues, including hull problems, it had to be scrapped.
Mark 3: We all know and love this ship. A good all round ship that all CMDRs are well advised to keep one of. One of the best ships around for a reasonable price.
Mark 4: The mark 4 was initially met with a largely negative reaction. Comparisons with the failed Mk 2 were made. However, over time, it actually became a favourite of a small number of CMDRs would loved its small size but large internal capacity. Far from being the lemon that the Mk2 was, it is actually a good vessel for certain activities, and while it can't compete with most other ships, and is more of a sidegrade to the Mk3 than an upgrade (and some would say a downgrade), it still has its proponents.
So, what about the future?
Could we one day see a Mark 5? Being an odd number, the chances are (if films have taught us anything) it should be a good ship. Maybe it will be more of a fighter than the previous iterations, or less. Maybe it will excel in another area that is not covered by the previous versions. Or maybe it will be a bigger and better Mk3 but for a much higher cost.
Who knows? Who cares? As long as the tradition of the Cobra continues!
Thanks for listening.
