Horizons So, Frontier manages to jerk the enthusiasm out from under me with one move

So, I recently decided to pick up Elite Dangerous: Horizons after I bought the base game back near launch. Let me just say, I was not impressed then, as the game was shallow, repetitive, and ultimately not engaging at all. As broad as an ocean and as deep as a puddle and all that.

Anyway, I thought I'd give Horizons a try. Sure, it added in features that may or may not have been promised at development. Sure, I might have had to pay additional money after purchasing the base game to get access to features that in a big, open space exploration-style game really should be baseline in the experience, like planets, and upgrading ships.

I was willing to ignore all that, and I was genuinely trying to, until I found out that there is a ship in the game that is unobtainable unless you bought both ED and Horizons before a certain time.

I really cannot begin to express my dissatisfaction with any game company that gates products behind purchase timers. "Exclusives" are just another word for preorder bonuses - pay now and you too can get access to something shiny! It isn't even cosmetic, such as a special skin, achievement, or avatar - it's an actual ship in a game about spaceships.

So I find that I can't get the Cobra MkIV at at all and I find that any company that makes these decisions is not worth my time or investment. I would like to know where I can submit for a refund, since the Steam policy of "fourteen days or two hours" is woefully insufficient when it can take more than two hours just to get out of a stock Sidewinder.

Suffice to say, I am not happy with my investment and am incredibly disinclined to support Frontier in their future endeavors.

If not getting Mk IV is what makes this a bad "investment" (Entertainment as investment does not make sense, whatever), then you are valuing the wrong things.

First off the Mk IV isn't that great...other ships of similar capability are much better choices.

Second, I would think that Mk IV will be available to all once Season 3 is announced.

Finally, I think you are actually unhappy with the expansions, so far. Why not target the things about the game that you think are not good?

It's not an investment, you bought a computer game. Any expectations you formed prior to purchase should have been tempered with reading reviews and watching the tens of thousands of hours of video dedicated to Elite: Dangerous Horizons on YouTube.

You said you were not impressed with the older game, but bought Horizons anyway. You didn't pre-order it so of course you didn't get the pre-order bonuses. THAT'S WHAT A PRE-ORDER BONUS IS!

Zero sympathy for someone in your position. You're an adult (I assume.) No one held a gun to your head and forced you to buy it regardless. It's a computer game and that's all.

What's even funnier is that I have access to the Cobra IV but will more than likely never get one.
.
Cobra III forever!

Investment? I think I see the problem. This is not an investment.

I can't believe it when I hear politicians talk about "investing in infrastructure" and "investing in education". These things are not "investments", they are expenses. This game is an entertainment EXPENSE.

Do we "invest in clothes"? Do we "invest in food"? No. These things are EXPENSES.

The use of language is so important.

Investment is not the word you're looking for. An investment would be something that you'd see a return on, like buying stock. You paid money for a luxury entertainment item, you will not see a return on it.

As for the Mk IV, it has been no secret that it was a limited time item. They do this from time to time. If you're going to get that butthurt about it, I suggest maybe doing some light research before you buy a game next time.

Why do people get so hung up on this? Next he'll be complaining about not having the Black Friday paint schemes... [rolleyes]

The Cobra MKIV is not worth the alligator tears.

We also got black skins for every single ship too. :)

Unfortunately, you will never own these either. :(

Some people say the black skins offer a combat advantage, maybe they are right!

Forgot about these, they are the only ones I use.

I don't like it when I come to the party late and miss out on something, too.

Nobody does.

That's the very point, I'd imagine, to generate interest before a date.

You know there are still McDonalds, in my area, that simply will not serve McBreakfast after 10am? It's just evil.

My recent capital acquisitions:
1. I recently invested in some paint skins in the online store.
2. I also borrowed money from my Mom to invest in some bobble heads for the dash of my Asp Explorer.

I was not happy with my ROI on the bobble heads. Do I need to amortize my investment or do I have to carry it on my financials at cost?

Here is the Mk 4, check out the awesome weapon placement.

It's arguably one of the best ships in the game.

2 large and 3 mediums, totally unbelievable firepower, it's also one of the fastest ships in a straight line too. It has awesome shields and can also carry more cargo than the mk 3!

Yeah I agree it's totally unfair on the people that didn't get one, it's almost silly how unbalanced this ship makes the game, OP really missed out.

Oh well. [sad]

Not sure if this will help as the OP is miffed about something he cant try himself, but just in case it might, I have access to a Cobra MkIV and it is total rubbish. Same as a Viper MkiV which is also pants. The 'exclusive' ships may look good on paper with more armour, jump range or what have you but they totally fail in improving on what made the MKIIIs great, namely speed, manouverability and all round utility. Seriously the Cobra MkIV may look cooler with a spoiler etc, but tbh you are better off in a MKIII and get a ship kit if you want the bling.

So, yeah even if you got access to the MKIV today you would be happy for about an hour before you actually flew one, then you would just trade it back for a MKIII and just put it down to a bad experience. Nothing to lose sleep over nor stop you enjoying the game.

Besides, really what you want is a Python. Reason I know this? Everyone really wants a Python in their life, the difference is when they discover this.
