So has playing changed your plans?

I initially wanted to be an explorer and I might do it yet. But to be honest before I 'get out there' I want to trade now, do some sight-seeing. Maybe align myself with my new faction (my station is in Empire Space and not somewhere around Lave in the Alliance as I first thought) and do some missions with them.

Just the sheer joy of flying around and doing things has changed me from 'definitely explorer' to 'part-time explorer, happy to faff around'.

What about you? Has playing the game changed YOUR mind on what you'd planned?

Thread rule: Maybe there's a mechanism or something you don't like and you don't want to do it for that reason, but we have plenty of other threads for that sorta stuff. Let's try and keep this one a fun read.

My plans have not changed, I still plan on exploring but obviously I'll need a decent financial footing so I plan to mine/trade/do missions until I have solid backing behind me, I'd guess at 50-100 million cr will do nicely.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Really depends on how the professions feel in the finished product. I'll just have to see. :)

One thing that hasn't changed, though: I'm still going to go all-out Empire and get my faction standing through the roof for Achenar. Maybe in a few years I can afford ship. lol.

My game plan is the same, what changed is my need of a few bits of hardware..

This is by far the biggest upgrade for a game I've ever done.

Same ol same ol for me.

Start from Lave and work my way up from there in some hard space building up my rep with the Alliance and maybe some Fed. I'll definitely build a real beast of a Cobra and then live paycheck to paycheck and that's because Frontier got really boring for me when you were rolling in cash.

I have always loved trading in Elite and very much enjoyed it in beta 1 with no kills to my name.

Beta 2 turned me onto bounty hunting and I discovered a new love :D

Beta 3 has turned me to a new profession bounty trading :D I find a new trade route then supplement it with bounties on the journeys. Loving it.

Oh I might be a murderer too....

I started off thinking I would just like to be dog-fighting among the stars in a souped up Viper, then I got the trading bug and ditched my Cobra which could carry 44 tons I think, to grab a Type 6. Then the game turned into a mad race to space stations against bandits and rozzers trying to interdict me and either rob me or just waste my time scanning me for tea and coffee.
My heart went every time I got interdicted and most were easy to shake off, but not a lone CMR in a Cobra who was trying to relieve me of my superconductors one quiet night in space.....my hull was down to 47 percent but I managed to escape with my tail between my legs and a smoking dashboard on my poor type 6 Lakon.
Now after earning over 45 million, I have a million credit Viper for dog-fighting at Eranin, and a Asp which just swallows credits like they are entirely fictional and made up for the sake of a game. The upgrades alone will get you a Imperial clipper and a Federal dropship, 50 million I would estimate for me to upgrade it, so now I have the trading bug and an Asp...I have to go back now to the game and get back to running loads that cost me 960.000 each time I run....only now I have 6 gimballed miniguned, Rolls Royce Asp power plant, instead of the plastic hulled yellow bellied type 6 run away and hide spacecraft that was the type 6. Long live the Empire !!!

Empire for me too, but i thing faffing should be an official career choice and we should be able to become elite faffers!

It has definately changed my plans. I was going to wash the car last weekend, but played Elite all day instead. Oh, and I forgot to pick up the kids from school yesterday as I was in the middle of a trade run and didn't want the timer to run out. And that vacation to the Bahamas, i'm thinking of canceling it.

I intend to do a bit of everything, jack of all trades, master of none. :) Whenever an opportunity arrives, whatever crops up and suits me at that time.

I think I'll be a lot less battle happy than I first intended to be. Avoid conflict if possible. It can be costly and theres no rewind button.

Going to hang around and get to SOL, spend a few hours mulling around the homestead then it will be right back to the main menu, kickstart the Cobra MkIII Explorer Start in some random far flung part of the universe, then it will be a quiet life for me.

I plan on continuing this until I happen upon a Thargoid or 10.

yeah meto, i wanna also wanna do all the things like bunting hunting and fighting etc, i love trading the most for now, anyone found the nostromo yet?:p

My plans haven't changed one bit. The only thing that'll be altered is the time in which it takes to attain my goals. If prices of commodities are lowered, which I expect they will be, it'll just take a little longer than it does now, otherwise, nothing's changed for me.

Still going to head for the rim, or the core. What ship I will be in, depends, on the final initial balance of the release version of the game.

I just hope I don't fall into witch space on my way there. And if I do, what ever I fly is an Iron Ass...

Yes! My plans changed last night - literally. I was previously convinced that bounty hunting was for me, and have done a bunch of it. But I decided to invest a bit of time in better understanding trading - specifically how to make a bunch of credits and have fun doing it, and I dare say I was successful. I made more today - with a tiny bit of effort/thought - than I had in the past month. Had some unexpected fun when my delivery mission timer ran out (should have checked the timer before I accepted - 3 minutes isn't much time!), and I had to slip stolen goods past numerous System Authority Vessels as I sought out a black market to help pay off my 70K fine resulting from mission expiration. It was a lot of fun - fun I wasn't expecting on quite that scale. I enjoyed it - and have a bit of a spring in my (gaming/E: D) step as a result.

Playing has actually strengthened my plans. I expected that bounty hunting/pirating will be for players more skillful and determined than I am.

Trading is too boring and capital intensive.

So exploring it is. A relaxing and interesting past time, without having to be afraid of space scum killing you or losong more than your insurance when you die.

I suspect for a lot of people exploring will become what they do when they've had enough of careers 1, 2 and 3. Sort of like the eskimos walking off into the snow or the elves 'going to the sea'. 'I haven't seen Cmdr Bob lately.' 'Yeah, he's gone exploring...' 'He was a good trader.' 'The best.'
