Newcomer / Intro So... how come I ended up in Wolfsegen?

Dear Commanders,

I write you from the Detention Centre in Wolfsegen. I followed your instructions, scanned the central marker, and found power capacitors, turrets, cargo bays, and a "hackable data transmitter". It took me awhile to determine I needed to use subsystem targeting to further "interrogate" the sub-targets. Since the hackable data transmitter had a recon limpet subsystem target, I fired one at it. It informed me a missile was inbound. I blasted out of there at ridiculous speed. I was told I had a 200Cr bounty, but when I went to the nearby station to pay the bounty, my ship was impounded and I was deported. I guess my journey is over now?

Please visit.

Moral of the story: When you're a criminal, don't hand yourself in to the police.

In case you don't know, if you have a bounty on you ("wanted" in red over the fuel gauge) and you get scanned by the police, they will try and kill you. If you get scanned at the station after requesting docking permission, your docking permission will be revoked and you'll be trespassing inside the station, so the station will kill you. It's best not to go into the station nor near the police when you're wanted unless you know how to deal with it by stealth tactics.

There are Interstellar Factors in two systems in the starter-zone. So if you get a bounty, go to one of them and pay it off.

If you just get a fine - then you can pay that off in your current system but make sure you do not select to hand yourself in.

Always read the screens carefully before clicking and ensure you scroll down to check that there is nothing important hidden there.
I'm not convinced that there isn't a bug somewhere which display as if you can pay of the bounty with no mention of handing yourself in. I know that in the C&P system there is situations where you would hand yourself in, but I'm 95% sure that I've personally had the button be to just pay bounty without any mention of handing yourself in prior to clicking it and getting to the option screen. But as you don't suspect something to be wrong before clicking it, you can't provide evidence that something was wrong.

I'm sure most of you just think that me and OP didn't read properly, but I saw nothing different on the screen to how it looks like paying of a bounty at an IF.

To be honest I have not gone near the station security when I have even suspected I had a bounty since before the hand yourself in and save them the cost of the ammo and me the cost of a rebuy was added, however I have misread all sorts of screens in the game countless times so I always consider it an option.

I did see Wanted over the fuel gauge, but I did not see any warning in the Authority Contact screen where I chose to repay the bounty. However, I wasn't looking at the screen closely because I assumed it was the same as all the other various fines for station and speed violations I have paid. Once I selected that, I do not think I had any other option than deportation.

Aren't they all in Pilots' Federation stations? Or would I be able to dock under anonymous access and talk with Intersetellar Factors? I suppose there is a Raven Corsairs station in Sharur, and the Alpha/Omega in Orna...

Yup, even fdev CMs get caught out

The determining factor is the security state of the system. Low security systems can have an interstellar factor available in the station services Contacts panel. It doesn't matter who controls the station - and yes all stations in the zone are Pilot's Federation Administration controlled.

So Battuta Station in Sharur is an outpost (orbital platform) thus there is very little chance of being scanned as you approach (remember, only ships scan you, the station doesn't) - so that is the go-to I F in the noob-zone. (Note how the Kill Pirate missions are in Sharur.)

Oddly, I never get scanned when docking at rotating stations, maybe because I usually dock quickly, but routinely get scanned at Battuta, even when fast docking. I assumed it was because Battuta is a Raven Corsairs pirate station outpost.

After the fact of landing in a detention center, the important bit is that this doesn't mean Game Over. You just have to pay legal fees equal to the bounty, then you get your impounded ship back and are free to make your way wherever you want to go.

You are correct - I forgot that one was controlled by the pirates not the Pilot's Federation Administration.

(nodding my head.) Been there done that a couple of times.

...and it's useful to learn details about the IFs. I was concerned about whether I had to visit a system that didn't have a presence by the faction that issued the bounty & associated fine. Looks like perhaps I didn't have to look that hard.

I'd be interested to know where you found a recon limpet controller.

By my reckoning they are not available in any outfitting in the starter zone and I have looked in every one for many modules not available.

It's very simple:

If you're "wanted", don't go in or near the station, nor anywhere where the police will find you.

If you're not "wanted", you can do what you like.
