So how do I increase my rep from Neutral to friendly for a major power?

Just wondering how I increase my rep from neutral to friendly, and then how I can actually move up the ranks in the major powers Navy?

I ask b/c honestly it doesn't seem that clear to me.

Sometimes I do mission for smaller factions and it gives me credits and no rep gain. Sometimes it's just rep gain and no credits. What I have not seen though are any missions that specify it's for a major faction (Federation, Empire, Alliance)

Thanks for any help/suggestions and also for reading!

Cheers :)

Lots of missions which gives you rep and no money. Even more missions for a sub-faction which gives money.
I've just managed to advance to friendly with Alliance but one of the sub-faction has already been allied for a while. (Previously I wasn't interested in rep building but it works now - needs a good few days of play)
Good luck!

Does handing in bounties to a respective faction increase rep?

Missions, bounties... trading has a bit of impact too (not sure to what extent, but I'd *assume* to lesser degree than missions and such). Trading for me didn't seem to nudge the rep one way or the other whereas missions had an impact with local rep after just a few.

Thanks all for the replies!

Seems that pretty much whatever I do will slowly build my rep so that is nice.

I usually prefer to be a pirate and focus on PvP as you can probably imagine from my avatar. Seems like this game is more geared for PvE though so I think I'm gonna try and be a combat pilot for the Federation as well as bounty hunt a ton!!

Trading alone is sufficient to attain Friendly status.

It is? Guess I'm not much of a trader then - heh - haven't gotten anything to Friendly with trading alone.

Playing the game is a good way to start. I have found bounty hunting with mini guns is the bes t way to go

Lasers + multicannons (or miniguns, whichever term you prefer) has been my favorite.

I completely agree. I started with all of them gimballed but have worked to where just my lasers (for dropping shields) is gimballed and now have fixed multi-cannons. If you're going to bounty hunt, I recommend the Kill Warrant Scanner. It'll tack add a nice amount of bounties to pick up in other systems.

Oh aye, KWS is one of the "must have" things for bounty hunting (I've got a habit to use them pretty much always, anyway, whether hunting or not - ka-chings with extra bounty elsewhere now and then).

Agreed! It was a pleasant surprise to see an extra 100k in bounties in the Empire and 50k in the Alliance while I stalked Federation space. Plus throw in any extra creds when you pick up assassination missions and it is just a thing of pure beauty to get the 100k plus and add on whatever the kws adds.
