So, how does "rare commodity" work now

Since the latest unnecessary and completely idiotic change "rare commodities" don't seem to respawn anymore.
I've bought 7 tons of " Lavian Brandy" yesterday and today all i could get was 1 ton. So what happened there? Why does a producer of "Lavian Brandy" refuse to sell his product to me? Why is FD making so many wrong <snip> game-changes?

Instead of moaning you could do a tiny bit of searching and find out what has changed and the current best strategy, there is a massive thread on this very subject.

Because people came on the forums and complained that the rare commodities presented an "exploit" and demanded they be limited, so as not to have a "get rich quick" option in the game.

Players were waiting in station for the goods to respawn and buying 100T of rare commodities. Personally, I don't see this as an exploit, since you still have to take them 150Ly to make a fortune anyway, but they're gone now.

Yea i figured that out. So FD artificially balanced another part of the game to the point where it actually doesn't make any sense anymore...well done there, FD

Less "spawn camping".

Why doesn't it make sense?

Let me think, there called Rares, there only available at one station, as there rare production is low so when you get there that's all they have, they're basically a nice little earner, a little extra, they are not meant to replace all other types of trading.

Which you could do before the change, stock up with 100 tonnes of rares, travel 160 LY in 20 minutes and make 1 million profit. How is that not an exploit?

Rares spawn in small quantities. Each quantity is specific to each player. The station won't spawn any more until you sell the ones you already have. If you still want to load up, I'd recommend flying to the main stations in the systems surrounding Lave. I believe Leesti has a station that sells two, Diso and Orrere also have stations selling them. Cart that lot back to the Federal core systems and it should net you about 500,000

Why would you care? The multiplayer aspect is so very bare of any kind of competition that there really is no point to compete.
By your definition of "exploits" you could also say that Mark Zuckerberg only coded a webpage and is now earning billions just by sitting there - Thats an exploit!

Either you have something like a "free market" and a "living universe" or you just don't. FD decided to artificially balance a lot of game mechanics already but always in such a stupid and obviously wrong way...

The best thing to get more rares is search which stations nearby has rares, and then load up there as well

FD should increase the supply a bit more but it was a necessary change because already rich players were spawn camping with type6 and other huge haulers and buying all the rares as soon as they spawned. It was a waiting game and only a few got very very rich.

just use thrudds tool and make a circular 6-7 location path each around 130-160LY away. And make note of any alternatives to stations if the one you are at is lacking quantity. You can still make lots of profit, around 200k per trip. Totally ditch everything besides essentials in a hauler (remove weapons, shields), and outfit it for best FSD range possible (mine goes around 38LY unladen and around 21laden) with around 20 cargo slots just incase you need them.

Use the galaxy tool to get the fastest route (not economical) and since the galaxy tool only lets you route to 100LY you have to find a halfway point for each location. Also for the galaxy tool you have to wait around 30 seconds or so for it to calculate the routes. So ya there you go, just warning you tho, rare trading is profitable but very boring.

If you don't have enough for a good hauler and around 50k extra for commodities/insurance cost, don't bother rare trading. Do something like bounty hunting first to get investment cash. You need around 200-300k investment in hauler.

I've got a route I travel with my ASP collecting rares, takes about 2.5 hours to do a complete circuit but it's making about 3M per lap, it's a bit of a grind, but I have a fuel scoop and plenty of good tunes on, collect a few rares at each station - sell them at certain points, job done.

Although, the only reason I'm doing this is because ordinary trading wasn't anything like profitable enough, hopefully it'll improve..

The current system works well you have an allowance waiting for you on each world in the rare goods circuit. It's more work but it makes sense bounce from one to the next selling and picking up as you go.

It didn't made much sense to let you trade thousands of tons of "rare" commodities every day imo.

Hey,

I quite agree with Cmdr Samson. Just sitting in dock refreshing the screen to get more rares to sell at what to me seems a relatively very large profit, could not have been working as intended - and wasnt.

Cheers,

At the moment I'm on a walkabout booze cruise, sampling the delights of a dozen worlds. This isn't a job, so I'm just taking it nice and easy and letting the millions roll in.

I haven't got into rares yet, but I'm sure I read somewhere that in this dynamic economy certain commodities will need others imported to be produced, for example we will take ore to a refinery world and metal to an industrial and machines to a high tech.

Does Lavian Brandy require a certain commodity for it's processing? Perhaps it needs 100t of fish and a soupcon of bio-waste in it's production and if that system doesn't have that then it won't be produced. Bring back the fish haulers!!
