ive got an A rated Anaconda and i simply couldnt turn fast enough to hit a master npc in an eagle he took my shields out

i eventually killed him for 18000 bounty i had to put my back to an asteroid so that he couldnt get behind me, and that was the only way, and it took about 10 minutes to kill 1 eagle.

My A rated FDL can't turn fast enough to hit 'competent' NPCs. I finally took one out with the help of three system authority vessels, but not before he wrecked my shield.

First, nice strategy to take out the eagle.

Second, A-rating, while good, isn't really the top of the line anymore. You need to mod your weapons/thrusters/etc with engineers to gain better maneuverability and firepower. It'll help make those pesky eagles *pop*.

Which is why I am gone and taking my wallet with me. Ridiculous Treasure Hunt for materials, followed by a Wheel Of Fortune for something that may, or may not, put you on a level plain again with NPCs. No, not fun any more.

Have fun guys.

I am! No mods are required to do any combat.

Thats exactly how it should be. Not fun anymore? I didn't fight anything yet but it sounds the fun just started. No more stupid facetanking eagles? YAY!
You did great with that asteroid. Was that fight really less fun than just point and click to kill like before 2.1?

Personally, I'm enjoying the more difficult combat without mods. I'm not exactly thrilled about how to get mods, but I'm not discounting them either. Especially since this just started today. The real question is how will Engineers play in a few weeks after some patches/updates have pushed out.

If you don't want to play anymore, I can understand. I would suggest some patience though, to see how the patches change things, if at all.

I agree. The pop-pops before of killing everything in sight without breaking shields didn't appeal to me. For me, it now doesn't feel like a grind. Every battle, every interaction is now an experience. Plus, getting your      handed to you by an npc is less embarrassing. :D

Have your tried FA OFF? I found that very, no scratch that, extremely helpful in beta. I got to where I fly FA OFF anytime I was in combat. REZ combat would smack ya on rocks from time to time. With that and some PIP management (lots of boosting) I was able to hold my own.

Turning speed is significantly faster while you're in reverse. Rather than trying to turn around the eagle, try going max reverse and pivoting to follow his ship. Use up or down thrusters to increase your turn speed. I feel like I never see anyone doing this, but it's a significantly better strategy than just mandhandling your ship into turning.

Also, on cruisers like the Anaconda, Corvette, and Cutter, consider mounting turrets instead of gimballed or fixed weapons. With a large power plant and power distributor, it allows sustained accurate fire, and largely eliminates the need for constant turning to follow targets.
