So how hard are the wing assassination missions?

I thought I'd do some missions, as I haven't for a while. Got to a port where I am allied, and grabbed two Elite Pirate Assassination missions off the board... And have just now realised that they are wing missions (I haven't visited the mission boards in a long while! :) ).

They are in different systems, so I can complete each one individually... But can I? I've got a battle Cutter close by - is that going to be enough? Or should I try to get some help?

Suggestions welcome while I wait for my Challenger to arrive.

If you have one of the big 3 you'll be fine. The toughest ones require you to basically unload into the target while the wing does work on your sheilds, then you can fly off and high wake or pick off the rest of the wing one by one. But If you fail to snipe the target, you'll have a bad time. He will sheild cell bank up to full health again and you'll be in a weaker position.

I have already proved you wrong on that. :p Turns out I can't fight properly in my Cutter anymore. Besides, I also discovered that it is much more fun fighting in the Chieftain, so I'll be reconfiguring the Cutter back to armed trader and use it when I have a desire for opulence (but probably not glory anymore).

Totally agree. I always drop into the Mission Signal and it turns into a slog. I don't have any problem eliminating this wing, but it takes so long and the payout is almost the same as the standard pirate assassination missions (which can be crushed in about 30 seconds), that I stopped accepting these. Just not worth the trouble.

Once again, if wing-payments were multiplied depending on the number of people in the "wing", these would actually be worth the effort.

For example?

Wing:4, payout per CMDR = 2.5m
Wing:3, 3.3m
Wing:2, 5m
Wing:1, 10m

That would make sense on many levels. Doing one of these by myself is about as much work as 4 standard pirate assassination missions. And dividing the bounty based on wing size makes sense from an effort standpoint.

All good thinking people, but I think the wing missions are meant to be hard for a team. If you can tackle one yourself, it is as said, not worth it.
This acts therefore as a deterant to more skilled pilots going 'pot hunting' with easier missions.
I hate to say it, but it's as designed(I suspect). 😊

The effect is more pronounced with 'source x and bring it here' missions. Sometimes the reward having bought the goods and delivered them, you may as well have traded them in the market.
BUT as Wing, each person only has to buy a proportion of the items and the profits as a team are greater.

Overall quite a clever mechanism. 😊

I've only tried one of them so far. I was in a pretty well engineered Corvette (6000MJ shields, Grade5 armor upgrade (but only lightweight armor), dirty drives, focused burst lasers and overcharged multis, etc.) I managed to kill the main target and fulfill the mission, but I was banged up pretty bad. They had some weapons that could damage my hull right through the shields, and there were 4 enemies (one main target and 3 escorts). They also had really strong shields so it took a long time for me to wear the guy down. Even then he almost escaped and jumped away.

I was down to 1 ring of shields and 30% hull at that point so I did not stay to fight the escorts.

I'm re-thinking my engineering before trying again. Better armor is clearly needed!
