So how is the interdiction mechanic these days...?

Returning after a long break, fancy trying my luck again at this sometimes unforgiving game... So how is the interdiction mechanic, the main bane of this game, in my view, play out today...?

Fact it isn't main bane at least on forums might indicate that it is worth a try?

It really depends how long your break was. It was fixed some time ago, but it is certainly better now. Try it.

Since December. I remember mines being an effective tactic, then suddenly they were not. Couldn't take it after that!

I usually just submit and jump or submit and kill... depends...

I ain't got time for the mini game.

Two weeks ago I evaded an interdiction attempt from a Viper MkIII in my explorer Anaconda. Make of that what you will.

Interdictions in their current form may as well not exist. They need a serious difficulty bump, and a removal of the submit and run exploit. And I'm only talking about playing solo in PVE, before someone starts whining about griefers. That's a different topic, see C&P...

Even I can evade them.

The only time I submit is when I'm nearing the end of fuel scooping near a star and want to be teleported elsewhere. Not carryimg cargo, of course.

Finally lost one for the first time in my T9 last night to an Elite NPC Viper MkIV..........I was rocking mines and missiles.....could barely get a lock on him so after the FSD cool down I just Sir Robin'd.

I find the T9 turns so slowly in an Interdiction that it's virtually impossible to over correct, you can anticipate the movement easily when contesting the interdiction.

Interdiction also was what drove me away from the game a long time ago. I came back mid 2.2 and have no more complaints about it.

If you mean getting interdicted in PVE, it is virtually impossible to get interdicted. Even on an unengineered T9 full of cargo it's still impossible to get interdicted if you know what you are doing (just gotta get used to knowing where the escape vector is even if it's out of your FoV, a NPC might initially make a very quick turn but then he simply stops fighting). Right now they are just pretty much a captcha or AFK check.

Interesting. Yes, this for PVE. Still waiting for the update to finish! I'll just get a stock sidewinder and do a few jumps, get the hang of the controls again and see what happens when interdicted. If the mini game can be beaten, I'll be more confident playing this game again.

So are interdictions tied properly now to system security?

The bugs and design flaws are gone, so now it's an actual skills game. That said, the interdiction skills game has an extremely low bar vs NPCs.
They are continuously working on improving the skills of NPC, I would guess that includes making them better at interdictions.
The system security level (and your current location within that system) mostly affect how fast you get help from coppers, I think.

Much better these days, you'll get hunted down by specific mission targets and if you carry mission reward cargo otherwise generally they leave you alone if you're minding your own business. If you do get a pirate interdict and you're running empty just let them scan you and they'll leave. Or if you're carrying cargo they will make a demand, per tonne worth and you can chose to drop it, run or fight. Overall the system is much better and to top it off it's almost impossible to lose the mini game now so you should be able to evade 99.999999% of them anyway, I've not failed to evade one in months unless I decide to submit and kill them for annoying me :p

The interdiction mechanic is quite easy. If you are being interdicted you have two options: fight the interdiction. If you loose, your frameshift drive will take long to come up again. Or submit. Then you can charge your frameshift drive immediately again. If you safely escape into supercruise the agressor may interdict you again within a few seconds and so on ...

As of the current version, Interdictions are basically optional. They're almost impossible to lose. Plus pirates now demand specific cargo, and wait for you to drop it, giving you an extra 10 seconds to get out, if you do fail the Interdiction. Easy!
