The devs gave us no other tools except scan it and get absolutely no information about the object whatsoever or shoot it and collect a material.Why do some people always shoot when they discover something new?
I'm all for peaceful exploration, it makes me sad

But apparently you are wrong on this, because Canonn are at a live site at the moment trying out placing different objects of different platforms trying to get something else to activate.
However, keeping my fingers crossed that whatever is meant to happen will, because you know... bugs.

Great, now you can only wait for a Group of humans forming to blow themselves up hoping they will reach the heaven with the fourty-nine virgin thargoids.
It's possible they are blisters or some sort of growth due to ill-health.
