So, how many sidey shuttles are spread round the galaxy?

I must have about 8 or 9 now. I always have the intention of keeping the ones I have kitted out for long distance travel and reusing them at some time but I can never be bothered. I wonder how many are now cluttering up ship yard space?

I buy them one at a time (can only fly one at a time!) with a good FSD and then sell them when I've done the job. Really looking foirward to a "send my ship from starport X to starport Y" service, so I don't have to keep going back for my space van.

Only 1. Left it where i started (Bose station). :) Flew until i could afford an Eagle > tested the Adder briefly > Viper > Cobra.

PS. wish we saw friends in galaxy map like we see where our ships and missions are. Small icon.

Could somebody please elaborate as to why it makes sense to use a sidewinder for traveling? I do not see the point. Thanks.

if you have a bounty in a large ship you cant land at a larger station without being shot to death but if you buy a cheap sidie you can dock safely at an out post and pay the bounty then scoot back to you larger ship and sell the side winder.

or as one clever fellow pointed out if your rich you can just use them as galactic map pins lol

I have a type 9 and a python I use for combat. If I decide to move to another area of the galaxy I can fly there in one ship but then need to get the other there too. As of now the only way is to fly there in a sidewinder and pick up your second ship.

Hopefully, when we get the 'walkabout' feature, we can offer up contracts to other players (or even NPCs) to transport us from A to B in a timely fashion. Would be a bit more elegant than the 'buy-a-wreck' solution we must resort to now.

edit: or even have regularly scheduled NPC shuttles going between systems. So you are going from A to Z, but to get there, you first embark a shuttle going to B, then another going to C and so on. And if there is some waiting time, you go visit the lounge or bar or whatever and hang with other players.

I think I still have my starter sidey in a system close to where I started. Didn't sell it since it was worth nothing and I'm thinking of using it to do some weapon testing with a friend. If it gets damaged or whatever, who cares right?

i would really enjoy being a galactic taxi service for dislocated pilots who need a lift :D

chatting in an uninformed and inappropriately ranty way about galactic politics as we fly :D

Yeah - this is the main reason. If you have a second / third ship that you want to relocate. Currently I'm doing trading in a T6, with my starter Cobra and Freagle sat in Jameson Memorial about 150 LY away. If I fancy having my Cobra near to my trade route, I'll need to buy a Sidey and sell it in Jameson. The only reason for using the Sidewinder is that it's the cheapest ship. The difference between the purchase price and trade-in price of the Sidewinder would be a good starting point in pricing for a ship transportatoin service.

I usually use an adder or hauler as a shuttle. Better jump range.

Me too. Every few days I'll get a hauler, fit an A class drive, call it "price gun" and zip around the local systems getting price information.

I do have one sidewinder though. It's in LHS 3447, sitting there from one I picked up my eagle. Seeing as that's about 200 LY away AND the station is bloody forever from the navbeacon, it can stay there.
