So how often do you get 'flybys'?

You know those times you are scanning an interstellar body, and you know you are possibly approaching a little too fast.

You stick with it and hope it finishes the scan before it flashes past you in a blink... the noise getting higher and higher, reaching fever pitch... you're aiming for the body in question but just slightly off so you wont actually run into it.

Slight adjustments all the time as you get closer and closer, trying to make sure you don't nose dive straight into the sucker.. noise squeeling at you now as you think go on you little beauty!

And woosh, fly by. Kill speed, dead stop, Turn around :D

I often play Elite with a laptop at the side so I get distracted quite often, loops of shame definitely do happen every now and again and i've been close to crashing into planets. Worst of all though is when you're jumping and trying to scoop the star while lining up for the next jump and not paying much attention so you end up flying too close which results in damage and a really long FSD cooldown. [mad]

Something I discovered the other day - doing a barrel-roll in SC loses a bit of speed while keeping your nose pointed at tte target.
(I have no idea who discovered this or what they thought they were doing, but it seems to work :) )

Maybe it's the 'real' reason for solar sails. They aren't to speed you up, but more like throwing out behind you like a dragster :D

Same here, I'm easily distracted.

I don't do it often, nor do I often do it right, but it's so satisfying when I complete the scan and whoosh passed.

Happens to me a minimum of once per system

With the Conda's lethargic SC maneuverability, it's a rather painful mistake lol
