So how worried should I be?

I've been out exploring and have occasionally got a little too close to a start or 2./

I've just checked my modules and have noticed that my power distributer is @ 1%

I'm already heading for home anyway, but there are ~80 jumps between me and Jameson Memorial using an economical route.

Is it time to ditch the economy and fly home ASAP (40 jumps) or is there something else I can do?

Set your dist to two pips everything. When it goes bang you are stuck in that configuration so set it now!

And hope rebooting will give you some extra when it pops.

You can always do an emergency repair, should it fail completely. It's your Powerplant that'll kill you if it goes to 0% - it can't be repaired either.

Turn around, carefully, and head back.

80 jumps is nothing. Be more careful. Throttle zero when the jump sequence starts. Don't try to scoop until you're sure it's not a T Tauri, etc.

I'd not worry about the Power distributor if you're exploring, you can disable it during normal flight in the module tab and all that does is not let you adjust how much power goes to eng, sys or wep. When you're exploring you're in SC all(most) all the time so you won't need to, nor be able to adjust this anyway.

Never experienced a broken one though but I'd wager you'd be ok, and if it does get bust up you can repair/reboot and you'll be back to 1% and can head for home more swiftly

Edit: wow... mega ninja'd!

I'm going on that NPC ships still fight and fly with a dist at 0%, and that the dist does indeed allow you to change where the power goes.

I learnt the hard way when fighting an Ana with a blown dist. It still fought and did some damage to my ship.

Yowch. You should really fit an Auto-Field Maintenance Module-- even a low class one is pretty decent and they're pretty dang cheap.
Then all ya need to do is go to your modules and turn off the damaged piece o' kit. Then Repkit will automatically start fixin' it back up in no time at all.

...Uh, well if it's at 1% it might take some time, yeah. If something critical like the distributor, Shifty-Drive or ya Thrusters go Kaput you can always reboot/repair. Takes a while to reinitiate everything but it works.
It's right next to the self-destruct key though, so watch ya fat fingers.

You don't need a power distributor for SC, when you turn it off you can't change your pips (or see power levels) but it works like before. I usually turn it off anyway when exploring, run slightly cooler for no disadvantage.
