So, I Bought This Washing Machine, And...

It made these funny noises on the spin cycles, like a cavitating submarine.

I looked at the big box it came in. It said "Lakon Diamondback Explorer".

No wonder it had cigarette butts all over the inside.

It flies like a washing machine, too. The DB Scout is lovely to fly, even with all the noise. This is a truck. A truck that jumps 51 light-years (G5 mod). Only Class 1 pulse lasers on each mount, to save weight, and a shield booster.

With a max 4A fuel scoop, it takes longer to fill than the Asp Explorer, which I have now gotten up to a 45 light-year jump, (6A scoop, G5 mod FSD) fully outfitted and equipped on each mount and slot. 5A thrusters, for a 400+ meter/second boost. The yaw/pitch/roll rates are far superior.

And no competition for visibility, or maneuvering. The DBX has three large mounts, but the placement sucks for the ventral mount. Numbers count as well. The Asp Explorer has twice the number of mounts firing at the target, even though they are two mediums, and four small mounts. It can also cover a much greater field of fire.

I'll try some trial runs out in the black. There is no question about which one is the one for general-purpose use.

Embarrassing, for Lakon: My Cobra 4, Edsel, drives better... :(

The Diamondback Explorer is a lot, but it surely isn't a truck - simply not enough cargo space for that.

The flight characteristics are something to get used to. The super-cruise flight characteristics are really nice.

It's certainly not the ship for everyone.

My DBX boosts to 460 m/s, has a pitch rate of 47.32, jumps 50 ly has 3 PAs, some armor and shields.

Fit 2 C2 Dumb fire Missile racks, 1 C3 Multicannon, start shout out loud "Gooooooodmorning Wietnaaaam!", with a cigar hanging "boggart" style from your mouth and a glass of your favourite booze, while listening Run Through the Jungle, while assaulting a base installation....:D

you'll love it!

My DBX (55ly G5) is my go-to taxi / mat's & data finder. Nothing else does it better.

It is unarmed and has 16t cargo for just in case stuff.

There are much better ships out there if you need to haul cargo & fight (Python).

Hey, I love that ship.

And to answer your general question - take a look at price tag. If memory serves me right DBX is 1.6M while AspE is over 6M. Now, do the math - how many times you have to pay more for how big performance upgrade? Not everyone have hundred of millions in their pocket. There are people who start and haven't made that fortune yet. For them DBX is dream come true.

And it sounds great and you can't get it. [big grin]

Also - your G5 roll is somewhat weak. My DBX with non-god roll can break 60 LYs. Can be extreme low weight build, can't remember as I haven't checked it for some time, playing with Python atm.

For long range exploration I'd take Asp or try to fit Anaconda. Short to mid range journey? DBX hands down.
