So I finally bought the ASP...

So after over a month of grinding, I have finally bought the ASP.

Stupidest decision I have ever made.

Why you may ask?

I made sure to only have 100k credits left.

So now if I die, I start over. Which would keep me from playing for a looooong time. (Maybe forever)

Assuming I don't die, it will take a while to make sure I have enough for insurance.

Totally my fault, and certainly a mistake I will never make again.

I hope I will be ok :(

Just sell your Asp back for a Cobra. If you'd added a bunch of modules sell those first. But get out of the Asp ASAP and you'll be fine.

Simple rule of ship acquisition.

Look at buy price. Double it.

That is the MINIMUM amount of cash you need to make sure it's specced up "ok", that you have insurance for a few losses, and you have cash for some trading...

Z...

Or take it like a boss and wreck face. Just be mindful of the dinky little shields the Asp starts with. Add 2 gimbal pulse lasers and quad multicannons and you're golden With a B4 power distributor.

Play in solo so you don't have to worry about people killing you just for the fun of it, find a decent little trade route, and you should have your insurance money + cargo money in no time.

To OP, so far I've spent nearly 30M on my Asp & I'm still not finished!

NEVER buy a ship until you have it's cost x 3 is my mantra & I am old & wise :)

I wait till I've got enough liquid cash to buy a new ship, I don't sell my most used ones. I know I'll never be back to just a sidey.

Agree with those who say to have double the cost of a ship before buying it. Saves you so much headaches later on!

I was in your position earlier. I ended up running rares until i could upgrade the cargo, and now i do a tidy route. Just don't die in the meantime.

Should have just rolled with it, the risk helps keep things interesting. I tend to upgrade ships without a buffer, and it's cost me a couple times. I've been kicked back to the sidewinder twice, but I'm up to an Asp now. Still kinda on a thin budget, each time I build up a bit of cash I buy an upgrade and go back to living on the edge.

But then, if it all goes down the toilet I'm not going to have a heart attack, throw a temper tantrum, or rage quit. I don't take the game that seriously, and for me the risk adds a bit of spice to the game. :D

You have great, big, hairy, cajones my friend. I hope you'll be ok too, may the spaceship gods smile on you... and if you're not then good for you for owning up to the mistake instead of trying to blame the game. :)

Living on the line makes you an adrenaline junkie.
