So I finally got "griefed" !!!

I've been playing fairly hardcore since the start of Alpha and tonight was the first time I was ever "griefed" as the term seems to be... I.e. Attacked right outside of a station...

I was scanned in my Lakon coming out of Aulin and shot at, lowering my shields ridiculously quickly considering I had full pips to the shields. Anyway, I turned around and blew the offending Cobra out of the sky with a barrage of missiles, but not before he breached my canopy... Now here's where the fun starts...

I was still in the no fire zone when I had to defend myself so it was only a matter of seconds before everyone around blew me out of the sky for being the "aggressor"!

This little lesson cost me 2500000 in cargo (p cells), which at this point of the game is relatively meaningless being so close to a reset (and being filthy rich), but at least I am one of the club now! :p

Clearly this situation will be addressed in the next update with regards to more station protection, but what about the right to defend oneself in the no fire zone if attacked? My guess is that the sneaky commander was no doubt just outside of the zone when he fired... I also hope that the shield issues are fixed... I had full shields and the mirror reflective hull and he tore into me like they were made of paper! I presume he was targeting specific ship parts but still...

Ps. Didn't catch the commanders name but I sure hope he's still around as I have a few hundred more missiles I'd like to deposit in his direction! :p

And that's why I have two sets of class 4 missles on my lakon for when someone thinks I am a cow ready for the milking.

i guess he had rail gun, it's really nasty piece of weapon and can bring shields and tear hull very hard ;)

I too joined that club yesterday after spending weeks wondering what the fuss was all about but evidently just being really lucky not to get jumped until now but then I haven't been able to play much.

I was in a sidey so no great loss....I hope the offending commander (yep, I got the name) enjoys the 4 units of grain he liberated. Hahahahahaha. :D

Makes me wonder how effective station defense and the no fire zone will be when it comes. After all, if I was the station commander sitting in a station watching someone sit just outside the no fire zone, repeatedly attacking other ships, I'd send the heavy mob in to sort them out. How far will a station's influence extend beyond the no fire zone?

Glad you put the word "griefed" in quotes as you weren't. Someone who takes the time to scan you is interested in what you're carrying and I can only deduce they were playing the part of a pirate. Sure they were maybe exploiting the stations defenses (or lack there of) so I say roll on Beta-1 and let's see what FD have improved :)

I have not yet had the "pleasure" but I am still very much looking forward to the extra measures being put in place and the addition of the all-powerful single player mode.

Stand And Deliver !

I know that this really is not an answer to the issue, but be aware that if you feel you are about to die, exit the game as fast as you can, either though the menus, or CTRL ALT DEL end task. When you next log in you will still be in your ship and back where ever you were before you left ED.

Do not log straight back in as you will be putting yourself back in harms way with the 'Griefer', so I would suggest giving it 30 minutes or so, and hope by then they have got bored and docked or hyperspaced away from the area.

This will work for now, and I know it's a cheat, but like the previous commander said, until they address the issue of being attacked from outside the 'no fire' zone, this at least gives us an option.

The option is there , but it's your morality if you use it.

BAD ADVICE! - The developers have specifically asked players NOT to use Ctr+Alt+Del as you selfishly save yourself at the expense of other players - it disrupts the instancing mechanism and causes issues for other people.

It's Beta .. expect people to act like morons (because they can) .. have some self respect!

I am hoping the Devs include the combat-disconnect feature we talked about in the DDF in the next release to overcome this problem.

Yep. Hope so too. Ironically I think it will also have an effect on if, when and how people attack. Even the present consequences would be enough to affect how people play if there weren't so easily circumvented.

Never tried it myself, but it was mentioned to me here in reply 25:

I did not know about the instancing thing, as that did not come with the advice when I got it. oh well , learning curve. Apologies for the suggestion.

Public service announcement: a stealthy missile murderer is on the prowl. I received an arseful of missiles when leaving LP in my Cobra the other day. My hyperdrive was 90% charged, aligned for Aulin, my radar was clear, when I got the 'incoming missile' notification and I just about had time to check I had all pips in shields and think 'I should go silent running to break missile lock' when my ship exploded. No warning shot, no scan. Perhaps it was someone settling an old score for my experimental pirate career, I never saw my attacker.

It's OK .. no harm done :)

The thing I have learned over the years playing games is that it only takes 1 person to abuse an exploit before many others like sheep follow. When the devs learn about them they have 2 options (after plugging it of course) : ignore the offenders or punish them. Some games banned people (Guild Wars 2 and Kripparian springs to mind for "abusing" some currency trade exploit on stream); some performed roll backs (Diablo 3 with the Auction House gold dupe where most had their account rolled back but streamer Inigo was banned); some simply shrugged and said "our fault".

I know it's only Beta and therefore all bets are off, but if you find something that magically "works" that doesn't feel right ticket the concern to FD and await their response. The worst thing that could happen is that you inadvertently abuse the game and find yourself banned. (I would literally cry as I put a little too much into the Kickstart, YMMV of course)

As I approached LP 98, the paint still wet on my noob Sidewinder with a couple of cases of rum in the boot (or trunk, if you will...), I couldnt help but notice an Anaconda flying lazy figure of 8's out front of the station. Suspecting something may be amiss I approached from the other side of the station, got into the no fly zone and went as fast as I could around to the front, full shields, hugging the sides.

Sure enough he opened fire but (far) more by luck than judgement I managed to get safely inside with only a slight scratch to the rear bumper (of fender, if you will...)

I was pleased to see that the station opened fire on him, at least that's what I assumed was happening as the space around me filled with red lasers but it was all over quite quickly and I was making rather a lot of noise myself...

He looked to be outside the no-fire zone when he opened fire on me but I might well be wrong about that.

It was quite exciting, I got away with it!

Well, until the next time I logged on, that is, when buoyed with confidence at my new found ability to go through a station entrance well in excess of '100' I undocked, lined up with exit, put power to engines and hit full afterburners...

Reincarnation can be a wonderful thing...

I was "griefed" yesterday as well. I launched out of one the space stations with an empty sidewinder (no cargo, etc) and some one immediately started attacking me, and although I tried running it came to naught so I tried taking him on.

Long story short: he got me, I got his Cmdr name for my block list.

Next time round, I made sure that I had a destination locked and boosted out of the entrance and off mass lock as quick as possible. Kind of made me feel as if I was blockade running, so was fun in that regard :)

I am sure something will be done about this, perhaps offering in-game online therapy for the Anaconda Pilot, for example...

It didnt bother me but I was prepared for some pvp and consider what happened to me to me is that I was on the receiving end of piracy, rather than griefing, might be disheartening for some, though.

Haha, I feel your pain (quite literally) as I (as I am sure everyone here) has done their best impression of a lawn dart, at some point in their commanding career. While acclimatising to the steepest of learning curves, I have since found out that the faster you go, the harder it is to change direction kinetic energy and such... however, if you keep your thrust vector within the blue area, this is the optimum position for speed against directional change. This is helpful in battles too). If your thrust vector is higher then the blue area, then there is a delay between where you point your ship, and when forward momentum matches that same direction. The faster you go the bigger the delay.

I hope you reincarnated into something positive :)
