So, I Finally Got My Cobra, And...

At this point, I usually have my "cocoa" come out of my nose, as the sun gods dump a blast on me... :(
Can anyone confirm whether the visible solar flares have a game effect? Are they damaging? I've avoided them as a matter of course just in case, but I'm curious whether they do anything.

i made a little vid

How to fuel scoop:-

Fly toward the star until your scoop activates , then throttle right the way back.

Get throttle up slightly until your heat is steady between 90 - 100 and you have a good fuel income level.
Then throttle back to 0

You should be able to balance out the heat to fuel level well if you turn your ship slightly away from the star until the

fuel starts to drop slightly, at that point the temperature should be stable (ish)

you should be able to then sit there without moving at all for a few minutes while you fill up.

Very important tho - throttle back up and fly away from the star to reduce the temperature before charging your FSD for

hyperspace, otherwise you will melt FAST!

My own method is to fly with the sun 'above' you at maximum speed, and fly orbits around it. This allows you to keep control of heat by simply flying looser or tighter orbits without the ship blocking the view of the sun, which makes judging the orbits quite difficult, and the high speed gives a decent fuel intake.

Something it's easy to miss is that the quality of your power generator makes a big difference to how well the ship handles high temperatures. If you can't max out your fuel scoop without taking damage, don't get a better scoop, get a higher rated power generator. You can stick your snout deeper into the trough, so to speak.

You have to over-estimate the price of a new ship. The ship may be 300,000 credits, but all of the modules you will want to add on will increase that. Then, you will probably need seed money to buy your first big haul of goods which will be more expensive than you're used to investing if you got a bigger ship. Finally, you have to save money for insurance. I always did a couple extra hauls even after I had enough cash (not including the value of my current ship) to buy the next ship outright. I also keep one kitted out ship in storage just in case I am stupid enough to forget to save insurance money and I lose my ship. It's kind of a checkpoint to fall back on instead of all the way back to the side winder.

The cobra is fun though, man. You'll like it once you are ready to get it again :) Happy journeys

The problem with this method is that you have to constantly make flying adjustments while my method of going as slow as possible means that the rate of uptake is as high as the temperature allows and you can leave it for 10 minutes without fear of being burned to a crisp.

Ha, I did the same with an ASP. Traded the T6, bought the ASP with a little cash in the bank ... then dinged it, and 1/2 a fuel tank later realized that I was flying out of my price range. Traded it back in and am now going to have about 20m in the bank before I buy it and will probably keep my T6 shelved somewhere instead of trading it in, just in case.

Fuel scooping 101

Fly above the sun, pitch up while on your side and do loops, if your heat starts to raise, just come higher off the sun and keep looping in circles.

You don't even need to fly. Zero throttle as soon as you come out of jump, aim for edge of the star, then throttle up 2 notches, when your scoop is scooping to it's max then zero throttle again and just wait. You should never exceed 100% heat, and most of the time you'll be around 95%. Remember not to charge you FSD for jump until you are out of scooping range otherwise your heat will become excessive and damage you.

Yeah , only have to worry about interdictions, and luckly if you are on the galaxy map when this happens it auto drops you out to the cockpit.
(this is why i didnt stick about in my vid, i had a full hold of rares)
