Hardware & Technical So i got a X-56 rhino...

Hello everybody,
I just wanna ask, if someone is here around who switched from KB+M to Hotas too and can answer me, if i will ever get used to it :|
I've bought it for more immersion and for the hope, to improve my flight-skill. Now i've tryed the default keybind from the X-56 for Elite and it felt horrible. But i've changed now after one hour everything i need to a good place (i think)^^

I'm used to be an Elite ranked pilot with lots of experience and was flying while sleeping. But now i'm doing the Training missions and just fail a lot.
So did you got used to it and felt more and more good with hotas or is it more a natural thing and recommand to let it go if i have no "feeling" for flying with hotas :S:S

I have 90 days to send it back if i don't get used to it :D

Does that one have yaw? 'cos if you don't have convenient yaw that'll be the only major dealbreaker.

Other than that you'll get into it just fine. HOTAS is all about the 'mershun. What I would seriously recommend is getting to grips with the basic controls, then trashing the preset and rebinding any buttons in a way that makes sense to you personally.

Every little change will always take an inordinate amount of adjustment time. If I change my controls around I still find myself deslecting target instead of adding pips to ENG or something...

Screw the default binds... do your own :) I re-bound almost 75% of the default X52 binds, cuz I'm just never going to get used to them. I prefer my current binds. After a few days it's almost second nature. After a month or so, you'll be back flying the same way you did. In the first few days though, you'd be re-visiting the keybinds menu very often ... cuz you'd find that you'd prefer this button do "this" instead of "that" after flying around abit.

I'm thinking you'd still have 60 days left to decide after that :D

I have just another question....is it a Hotas thing that i don't have anymore my dot as crosshair on my cockpit UI or is it anything else that made it disappearing? :S

Yup the dot is for mouse/keyboard. But I think there's a menu option to force it on if you wanted to. Personally I never used the keyboard/mouse combo for ED so I never had it... but I've seen it in videos.

I use the X-56, it is a decent little unit. Tough to beat on buttons and features for the cost but QC is spotty. Be ready to deal with Logitech's technical support, they're not terrible. As for the key bindings, I agree many of the "stock" bindings suck. I too had to change many of them. A quick note, there are two columns of key bindings in the game options. You can bind many functions to both a keyboard key and a joystick or throttle button. For organization sake I bind keyboard keys in the "left" column and HOTAS buttons in the "right" column.

Another HOTAS that seems to have gained a lot of traction among Elite Dangerous players is the Thrustmaster T.1600 FCS kit. Not as many buttons, etc. but apparently sturdier and more reliable. o7
