I've been itching to climb into one for ages. Finally saved up enough cash for it and some mods. Rather than part ex my cobra I decided to stump up the lot, just in case of a rainy day scenario. I thought I'd take it on an easy run, load up some rares and earn enough to upgrade a few more bits. I'd left enough cash for some cargo and one rebuy on the insurance.
One thing I had done however was downgrade the shields from a E4 to D3, I figured I could use the extra x32 cargo space and make a killing.
So lets fast forward to me sliding into a docking approach at George Lucas, like I'd done countless times before. Coasting along at max speed, four pips on engines, drop gear at 6km and let the drag slowly kill the speed. Line up on the box before tapping throttle back, speed falls off and OH FRAK!! A PLAYER COBRA!!!
I threw the throttle in reverse, tried bank round and bring extra thrusters into the fray.. nope.. bounce, fizzle, boom. Half a hold full of rare and a brand new Asp is wreckage in the docking slot.
Now this isnt about throwing blame around, I could afford the insurance. What I wasnt prepared for was being forced (by common sense) to buy a sidey because im priced out of both my ships. Even my ol Cobra is too pricy on the rebuy to fly right now.
I 'could' just sell some components. I mean the Asp has an advanced scanner I'm not gonna need soon, Cobra could definitely afford to lose some of its A components but I think I'm just gonna go sidewinder for a little while.
Why? Because I like the idea that I've got to start from scratch and build up again (as much as you can when you've already done the donkey work)
