So, I have a station....now what?

I built an orbital but am at a bit of a loss from where to go from here. Knowing that what you build will push your system in one direction or another....
What type of system did you choose to work towards and why?

in same situation, hoping some of the more experienced (further developed systems) will publish some info on what each type of outpost/settlement/hub gives the system.
DaftMav's spreadsheet is great for seeing what requirements are for each structure, just hoping to find some more information on what the benefits / facilities each structure gives for the system before decide on what else to add next.

My issue as well... When you look at theystation types the have various effects on the system from security to tech level but no information on exactly how they affect the system and not enough information to make more than a general direction.

According to the little documentation available population seems matter to the rate of production output. But what exactly it does or what is being produced, how the security level, tech level and other factors come into play is just a guess.

Right now I'm building a security instillation, will that take me from low security to medium? Will drop the rate of piracy/interdictions in my system? What does adding military installation do?

My third project was an extraction settlement, that currently produces water hydrogen and nerve gas... If I add a tech installation or refinery will that change the types of products being produced? Or the fact that they were not in place prior to the build make any changes impossible?

My current goal is to add infrastructure the build tier 2 and finish with a tier one orbital station.

I didn't really consider it till I watched a couple videos and saw how what you build can be beneficial in different ways.

The bad news is that with colonisation less than a week old and yet to go through a full cycle. You are one of the ones those of us who have yet to start are looking to provide that information.

would not wait for me took me over 2 years after carriers were released to actually get round to getting one.
As more of a solo/casual player (since prem beta) I tend to just go slow on a lot of things.

Did manage to grab a fairly large system (20 space and 19 ground) so plenty of possibilities just will be very slow for that system to grow as can only manage a few hauling runs before start to doze off

To make a good healthy colony I don't know if I am supposed to make it balanced (with a healthy mix of agriculture, industry, tech, commercial, security, government and population) or if it is better* to make the system heavily specialized. Or does it matter: does it make any difference to the player's game.

I don't know if placing two agricultural facilities in the same system is effectively better than two agricultural facilities in different systems.

* Stable system state, not going into famine, civil war, etc. and reasonable profit returns for the cmdr. Overall a good 'healthy' system.
