So, I Installed World Of Warplanes 2.0, And...

Oh, dear. I had uninstalled after the 1.5 "Jello" flight model update, over two years ago. There were massive defections then.

Since then, the bleeding increased. Wargaming decided to truly "arcade" the entire game with 2.0, and the howl could be heard in the Aleutian Islands.

I knew something was up when all of my accomplishments had been moved to an archive page. My credit, gold, and experience balances were there, as were all my aircraft.

I picked a trusty Tier 2 aircraft for my first battle. Simple airplane, for a simple re-orientation. In the new game, you can respawn multiple times, if shot down. How bad could it be?

First, they had mellowed the Jello down a bit. But, this was more than compensated for by the lack of situational awareness, due to it *still* being Jello. Lemon Jello.

The AA and bots were just as uber-lethal as ever. You could barely see your opponents. All control inputs were muted. There were no weapons range cues.

The feel was all wrong. Warplanes had always been more of an arcade than a sim. Now, it was worse. My aircraft showed no real performance differences from my opponents. We were all flying the same aircraft, except they had aimbots.

So, it turned into an ultra-nasty arcade hell after several missions. Insert gold, to get an aircraft with real differences from your opponents. Skill did not count.

My PC was still downloading the 127 GB World Of Warships when sanity (relatively) returned. Wargaming has introduced a Steam-like game center, that eats CPU like mad.

Panic uninstall. I purged the Commie Menace from my PC.

There *are* games that have more issues than Elite. The flight model in Elite had spoiled me. Praise be to the Mistress Of Minions!

I may wail about certain aspects of the game, but the basic flight model of Elite strikes the right balance between sim, and arcade. World Of Jello, Begone!

It's interesting to see anybody disappointed with WoWp 2.0. That game was always absolutely horrible, why would anybody spend any time on it is beyond me. There's WT, DCS, MFSX and a plethora of pure arcade games to fill in all your needs.

I was taking the wrong meds at the time. :)

I uninstalled that after a few minutes.

After world of warships I was incredibly dissappointed over the crap design of air combat.

I'll just hope Warthunder manages ships correctly and we have a near perfect game.

The problem with Warthunder is their addiction to re-spawning. It's irritating to kill someone and 2 minutes later they're back in the battle looking for revenge. If I kill someone I want that to have a significant impact on the battle rather than some sort of whack-a-mole approach. It effects how people play in these sort of games and it's one of the main things I have always preferred about Wargaming products.

You are having a significant impact on the battle, if you can let go of the "me vs. him" elimination line of thought.
While you haven't knocked him out of the game outright, for every plane you kill you brought the opposing player one step closer to elimination.
And so does every of your team mates who kill another one of his planes.
You have also protected your friendly units, bases, airfields and players....and prolonged their life in battle.
I have played both, WoT and WT, and i dare say extensively, and i like them both.
But the way Gajin does it has the advantage that players will be more adventurous, and less "camping" and safety minded. Simply because they're still in the battle with another plane/tank should they get killed.
That makes for more dynamic battles.
Also, revenge isn't my thing. When i get shot down, i don't go after the player who killed me. I go after the tank or base he prevented me from hitting.
And when i do go after a particular player, it's not for revenge reasons, but because he's wreaking havoc to mission objectives.
I understand your point, and if that's your preference then fair enough of course, i'm just trying to offer a different angle on it.:)

World of Warships is fine. You can criticize the balance decisions (BB are constantly buffed while CV have to live complete misery) but the game itself is very well crafted, ship movements and fire are believable. I like the pace of it, the only downside is it's a team game 100% and you have to grind your way with random potatoes so you get the upper tier ships needed to get into a proper unit.

At high tiers CVs are overpowered. A good CV player can reliably knock out any other ship in the game using one coordinated strike and only lose a few aircraft doing so. Even AA optimised cruisers if he spots them using their AA consumable in time and pulls his aircraft away.

EDIT:
That said, a bad CV player is entirely useless even at high tiers.

I'm not tier 10 yet but i heard very different opinions on that, so i'll see by myself. In any case, i went back to WoWS now that Mechwarrior Online is mostly dead, and it feels definitely a lot better, only issue is to finding a unit to play with. And no issue with a wonky arcade flight model there ;)

Send me a message in game if you're on the EU server (same name). I play most evenings, though clan wars might interfere and I often division up with clan mates. But it won't do any harm :)

Isn't warthunder elimination after 3 deaths?

I think this is ok. Sometimes I've been up against done seriously good players and it has allowed me to continue enjoying the fight (rather than being stuck watching) and try different tactics.

Probably annoying for more serious players but they could probably change the rules for competitive type games pretty easily.

World Of Real Money Spent On Jello. Hospital Jello. I want all the gold back, please. Same for MechWarrior. Unwilling to sell my accounts, since first, it would be wrong, and second, I would make myself a prime target for cyber-stupidity.

I've tried War Thunder. For some reason, it does not appeal to me. Non-rational.

Most PvP centered games have lost appeal for me. They have changed friends into irrational pre-schoolers, when playing with them. Hence, my preference for Elite's Solo mode.
