So I just bought a Python

...For the first time on this save. I did it the same way I always do - with barely enough to pay for stock insurance. Now I'm on the Sopontet > 34 Pegasi route with 3,000 Cr in my pocket and a hundred tonnes of slaves.

It's a 9-jump route. Yay! Does anyone know of a better one in the immediate jump range, for a guy with a 10 ly jump drive? :D

I did something similar, but i bought it 150ly away because it was on discount, got it back and stored it.

I'm actually going in Private Group with a new CMDR friend. I'm going back into Open as soon as my insurance is covered, along with cargo money.

i tried trading with it at first but i couldnt afford a decent fsd, became very painful, so i got the scout out and hit the RES

If you did not get it on discount I would head to a station and sell it and buy one on discount. Did this when buying fdl sold and rebought python and modules and saved millions that should give you insurance.

If it was bought on discount I hope this is not another one of those threads.

Just got one myself. Also not enough money to upgrade, so it sits in the hanger looking pretty while I fly my Vulture. I will add upgrades as and when I can.

Yep, saved a bunch of money myself this way. Not sure if there's any remaining oddball shipyard discounts, but even just traveling to Sirius space & re-outfitting can save a bunch, once you have something upgraded.

Out of interest, how many Python saves did you have before? As I am someone who saw a Python on a nav beacon in 1.0 and said to myself "get Python, be happy", it's always interesting to see the other end of the spectrum. The guys who repeatedly make they progress up to the top because they think it's fun (what it is!). Personally, I wouldn't play the game anymore without owning a Python. It is my vessel, my love, my base for roleplay.

I'm going to be getting a python in a week or two...not sure whether to trade with it, or go exploring...with a full tank a minimal python setup can still get 28 Ly jumps...not too shabby :)

Even with fully upgraded thrusters, I find the turn speed on the python makes it a touch frustrating when I end up exploring with it. However, I've found it's the perfect ship for mining! A pair of mining lasers on the medium hardpoints lets you keep your large hardpoints for the good stuff, and with around 200t cargo space, well that's a lot of platinum and painite to bring back!
