So i just lose everything?

It's been said since the moment the game became playable, but I'll say it again in bright green letters for posterity:

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO COVER INSURANCE, DO NOT TAKE UNNECESSARY RISKS

What are unnecessary risks?

  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.
  • Flying a ship without enough credits to cover at least three deaths.

Why? I'm glad you asked...

  1. If you're unfamiliar with a new ship, you could end up kissing a station.
  2. If you're in a combat zone, you *are* going to die. It's not a question of "IF", but "WHEN".
  3. If you are in "Open Play", you *are* going to die. It's not a question of "IF", but "WHEN".
  4. A random game bug can cause a death.
  5. You might be trading, but make a mistake with fuel calculations and need to self destruct because you can't scoop from the nearest star.
  6. Heat death (for various reasons)
  7. The list goes on...

Case in point on #4: I un-docked in a station, had an AI ship sitting on top of me, got killed by station for loitering because I couldn't push the AI ship out of the way. I had enough to cover 2 more deaths, but what if I hadn't?

I stopped reading after about the 4th or 5th page as well we all know how these threads end..

More importantly has anyone berated the OP about USING THE SEARCH FUNCTION so we didn't have another copy - paste thread about somebody not using common sense?

IF not @OP really there is a search function USE IT....

Hopefully it helps others, too! Mwuahahahaha!

Its all going to be fine after 1.3 when they introduce the Zorgon Petterson Nerf-Ship it features an extra slow drive to reduce nasty surprises, its impervious to all weapons and collision damage to reduce insurance rage and it has no hard points because power management is difficult. It plays in-cockpit lullabies and songs by Barney the dinosaur. The manual is a pop up book with "have a great day" at least twice on every page.

Summary:

  1. OP went into Open the first time with no balance to cover insurance and into a conflict zone to boot
  2. OP got his a** handed back to him by some player, which is fair and square in a CZ
  3. The available loan saved his bacon and he got his ship replaced
  4. OP had not learned anything and simply went back to step 1
  5. Not surprisingly, step 2 followed suit
  6. Now the loan did not cover the rebuy anymore, surprise!
  7. OP starts whine thread on forum

No alternatives, you just happened to learn this part of the game after 160 hours, take a break, and come back stronger with better knowledge of the game.

Yeah, or enjoy the game more, continue to play Solo. There really is no real reason to feel pressured to play Open; I certainly ignore the pew pew crowd, and enjoy the game (a lot).

Just don't do anything dangerous with out at least 2x your rebuy cost. It's not that hard. Just go to a res, you can make that 10mil back starting from a sidewinder in just one weekend.

The alternative is to come to the dark side*, spend all your money on every trip, and when you die just wipe and start again! :D

(*Ironman .. Not implemented yet so it takes will power to self impose)

Elite: Rogue ;No savescum allowed.

ED forums so need a subsection dedicated to 'No Insurance' posts.

Or better yet improve the game and add routes to recovery as was originally intended.

I've always been for a more forgiving loan mechanic, and I'm satisfied it's coming in 1.3, and I'm usually pretty forgiving with the people loosing there ship, I mean stuff happens - there's no need to rub salt into the wounds.

But this case. Once, yeah fine - people get excited and make mistakes. But to then repeat it immediately, the loan screen even clearly states the max loan value.

To err is human...unfortunately so is being reckless and foolish.

Absolutely Rekt.

I jest, but maybe this is a good lesson to more notice of your balance/loan next time.

The fact Elite is quite brutal in this regard I find a breath of fresh air.
