So I just lost my brand new Imperial Clipper...

...while 100k short of insurance payments.

I have other ships I could sell to cover this (which I am more than willing to do), but I can not do so from the rebuy screen.

Am I screwed?

Just knock off some of the more expensive modules until you have enough.

yes!.

Have you tried deselecting any upgrades to get the insurance price down? if so and you are still short even on the basic hull of your ship then you are screwed. be glad you kept your older ships.

I tried deselecting modules still too short.

There is no way to sell my other ships to get it?

I have the cash, just can't access it.

I don't think I have the patience to grind to a Clipper again...

Guess you missed the part about do not launch without being able to pay the re-buy cost.

Loans have always been enough to cover the rebuy price even if I was short, didn't expect it to go over this much.

No, sorry mate.... Clipper is gone. But you CAN get it back. I know it's a pain to grind, but there's plenty of opportunity. Take a quick look at the smuggling missions in Sothlis (or however it's spelled) - someone reported making 20 mil an hour in long range smuggling missions. That Clipper will be back in no time!

Think on the bright side, at least you didn't lose a 500 mil PvE outfitted Anaconda. People have lost FAR more - you're not alone there that's for sure (if that's any consolation).

its gone but as already said, there are major money making opportunities now in 1.4.

Mining, combining with mining missions I can make over 2 mil credits an hr and apparently smuggling missions at sothis can get 20mil in an hr (though this does involve exploiting the BB mission generators)

The loan is to help new players. By the time you get to a clipper you are no longer a new player and should have learned all about insurance.

Never really lost a ship except starter before so it wasnt something I learned about.

If I was truely short, I would understand, but I would have the money if I could just sell my other ship.

But you CAN get it back.

Yea, I don't think I have the will to do so anymore.

As with every suggestion that gets made for the game, no one really reads them and they don't come to pass. But the ability to remotely sell a ship could be a useful function, as long as you can do it while also being offered the insurance buyback.

Yes, the option to transform your ships into money, both from the insurance screen and during the game from the stations service panel would be very nice.

And i really feel the loss of the OP, but thats the way, we learn lessons in E: D... the hard way.

My other hull is a Fully Stripped Vulture.

Selling the hull would cover insurance 4 times over, yet I can't do so.

The Vulture is pretty much useless stripped, would probably have to sell it for a pimped Viper to make money. I can't fly a Vulture again. T.T

Disagree. Fly with proper levels of insurance or be prepared to live with the consequences. That's the game.

A while back someone suggested a prompt. If you hit launch and do not have your re-buy a prompt should come up and say, "You do not have sufficient funds in place to cover the loss of your ship."

Then two buttons. "Cancel Launch" and "Launch". I'd have no issue with that. However, launch in spite of the warning and lose your ship, then on your own head be it.

It's a mistake, and an expensive one. You feel like a complete numpty right now, because you could so easily have avoided the whole situation. You're hoping for some loophole, or a back button, or an autosave feature you've somehow never spotted before.

Oops.

I lost my first Python this way. The last thing I wanted to do was make it real by pressing the button and starting that long journey again. I logged off and took a break.

I came back because I missed mining. Long before drones or anything other than an underspecced Cobra with a balky cargo hatch and a refinery communication error. Eventually, it was back into the T9 and very real joy as I closed in on the Python

Take a holiday and try something different. Don't grind for that Clipper until you're in the mood. It's a game, not a chore.

Or look at the right hand panel under the combat, trade, explorer & CQC ranks. ;)

All it says is "Rebuy Cost" at no point does it imply that not covering it makes you lose your ship and modules forever.

Not letting you sell ships or modules even in the same system to cover it is also kinda counter intuitive.

This is true. That said, I'm really suprised that the first time you ever saw the rebuy screen came after you graduated all the way up to a Clipper. I'm sure I died at least 6 or 7 times by then. I also visited these forums and Reddit between then and read posts just like this and learned the lesson. Perhaps the rebuy screen should be part of a training module.

Hell, maybe the game itself should start you in an Anaconda, fighting for about 30 seconds in a losing battle only to see a rebuy screen that you can't afford to replace, such that the only option is to take the Sidewinder. Learn it right off the bat.
