So I Now Own A Battle Orca

As a keyboard only player, I like to try something a little different as a ship every now and again. I have now switched to my Battle Orca (for ramming speed). It is one ton heavier than the Clipper, has three fuel tanks fitted (maximum endurance 114 light years before refuelling), over 15 light year jump range unladen, presently has class 2 two multicannon and a class 3 beam, a shield booster, 6-9 shield cells (varies on loadout) and 20 chaff. I am still playing with the loadout, but if I get problems (the Orca is a BIG target) I just jump out of system and can outfly most ships on endurance. I wish that FD gave us Passenger Cabins and the Stasis Pods they suggested were to be introduced. It would make the most unloved ship (0.13% of players use it) into a great investment.

The Orca does definitely need some love, it's a beautiful ship but there really is no reason to own one as things stand. Fingers crossed passenger missions might show up in 1.4 or 1.5

The orca is incapable of equipping a shield that meets its optimum mass. I think this is a fundamental flaw in its design, though I have no idea how this would be rectified without changing its internal compartments or weight.

A half decent mechanic would upgrade the shield generators, and maybe lose a few tons of "cargo".. you could even advertise that as a part of your passenger spam

"Fly with us we have HUGE TOUGH SHIELDS, pirates are no worries"...

As for the ship itself, yes it need a purpose (not porpoise) as its not really handy for much. Yes you could have a huge amount of fun with it, as it's not your "average pirate ship"..

As to buying one- Alioth has them on sale at 20% discount 38 mill vs full price of 48mill CR.

Fly safe and have fun in your white liner
