So I see they allowed you to stay in VR with Odyssey.

Good move, Frontier. Sure it may not have full-on VR support, but now you can play uninterrupted from your VR setup. I searched the forum and didn't see any mention of this.

"Can I play Odyssey in VR?
Odyssey will be compatible with VR and you’ll be able to enjoy the same fully-featured cockpit experience players have enjoyed in Elite Dangerous so far. When leaving the cockpit of your ship or SRV, VR players will see a projected screen on which they can continue their journey without removing their helmets. They may also remove their helmet if they choose. VR is only compatible with Elite Dangerous on PC. "

This was when I let out a sigh of relief 🙂 Not the best result, but a helluva lot better than what we were going to get.

I’m still hoping for existing flatscreen 3D options to still work with Odyssey feet - I’ve a 3D TV for that in case the Side-By-Side option can’t be used in-helmet.

I was really on the fence about Odyssey because of no VR support and no ship interiors. But at least I'll have one just in time for my VR headset to arrive.

The initial Odyssey announcement had me proper electrified with the prospect of VR under new skies, only to be crushed shortly after by the “not at launch” bombshell. I’m happy that FDev re-thought their position on that one (and thankful for all the efforts of VR players that I’m sure helped them along the way to that decision) and I still hope they’ll revisit the on-foot parts in the future.

Elite in VR is superb, it really is a different experience. I’ve had Elite since it first released and played for a while on a 3DTV - I still couldn’t believe it when I first put on the VR helmet. I don’t play the game Elite Dangerous any more - I get into my spaceship and take it for a spin now 😁

I hope everything goes well with your setup, and the VR subforum is a great place for help if you need any.
