So, I tried open

So, I tried open just to see. In a cheap Hauler, just to test the waters. Two jumps from Witchhaul, interdicted, demands for cargo. No problem, self-destruct, lest he target my hatch and profit from it. Experiment over. Total time, under 10 minutes.

Note that I didn't pull the plug, access the router, or log off. So no pvp'ers were harmed in this experiment.

Edit: Something must be wrong with me, because now I have this compulsion to go try it again in an armed ship and see what happens. I'm haunted by the idea that if I had my *real* ship, I could have taken him.

This is going to be more dangerous than any of you realize. If I play through dinner again...it might be ugly. I'll report back later.

^^ Yeah. Drop some crap. Say "bye bye mr pirate sir" and turn around. Deploy hardpoints - KILL THE SOB while he is scooping! :D

Mouth open speechlessness

Not sure if I believe this. I have gone to 'heavily populated' areas like lave and only seen 1 player. I have yet to see anyone hostile or try to pirate me. Dunno if its just me or what

Any time someone even looks like they are trying to get behind my taxi hauler, I turn to face them, and if they have an interdictor, I throttle to zero, drop to normal space then initiate a random 35LY jump.

This. As a wanted man, any time I see a human Python I'll often do the same. Avoiding people is fairly easy in this game. Too easy almost.

That's really why I tried it. I keep hearing different accounts. I really just wanted to see how long it would take. Mr. Owl now says it only takes two jumps to get to the center...er...before you're interdicted. That reference will be lost on young people.

I rarely bother them, but I see hollow points on radar all the time in Mobius. When my buddy and showed up in Eravate for the 'event' shortly after launch, there must have been 10 players in our instance. You guys who aren't seeing anybody should really look at your network settings.

It doesn't strike me as a particularly fair or scientific experiment. Why bother at all?

I assume it was a CMDR who pulled you over and not an NPC?

I've been in open for a few weeks and have only been interdicted by a CMDR once. Fortunately for me they were a fairly reasonable pirate and I had some cargo I wasn't bothered about (as I'd only just scooped it up). To base all of open on 10 mins is pretty short-sighted. Instead of self-destructing you should probably put some more effort into evading interdiction or running away sharpish (of which there is no stigma, even some of the NPCs do it when they interdict me and get upset that I'm blowing them away).

Well, all my requests for grants went unanswered, so I worked with what I have. Why bother at all? To satisfy my own curiosity and to share the results. I honestly don't believe that I need a better reason.

What was it you were testing exactly?

Man I wish I was interdicted by human players. I think it happened once a week after launch*, and I've been trading in open the entire time since.

I do have to say though that if the idea of being interdicted/pirated by a human is such a deal breaker, don't go into open. Not because it's a huge risk (I have no idea how huge a risk it is. I've no idea how representative my experiences are) but because I don't know what you'd be getting out of the experience.

*and I wasn't even carrying anything, so I just pootled off.

Edit to add:

Just today, for example, I traded from 8 to 11, had a snack, 11:30 to 12:30, logged off to do some real world things then from 3pm to 4:30 pm. I saw other pilots pretty regularly, but no interdictions. I'm not sure either of us has the data to be making conclusions.

Makes sense. I wasn't actually trying to get away. Like I said, it was a throwaway Hauler. Self-destructing was plan from the git-go if I was interdicted or fired on. I really didn't want to hear the screams in the forum if I logged off.

I just wanted to see how long it would honestly take. Seemed like reasonable curiosity.

Suggest you try NOT solo as an experiment ;)

You might just like it.

Lol. This reminds me of something a friend once told me.

"I missed my date last night because my car wouldn't start."
|
"What was wrong with it, why wouldn't it start?"
|
"I don't know, it wouldn't start."
|
"Well did you check to make sure it wasn't something simple, like a loose cable?"
|
"No, I turned the key and it wouldn't start, so I called and canceled my date."
|
"You didn't even try to call a friend and get them to drop you off? I wasn't doing jack last night"
|
"....No....."

Sometimes I wonder what some people do when they come across a shopping buggy abandoned in the middle of the aisle, with nothing in it and no one around. Do they turn around, walk down the next aisle down and come back to the other side to get to the coffee creamer?

Been playing about a month now and have not been interdicted by a human once (plenty of fake humans though (NPCs)). Seen plenty of other players but I guess I'm just not interesting enough.
