So i visited W Ursae Majoris...

There's an achievement for the Xbox to go there so I figured there was something else up besides just that.

I saw that I could land on one of the close planets and figured I'd give it a shot. Well, I found what appears to be a very odd shaped mountain in the middle of a large crater and when I get near it in my SRV I'm told that I'm triggering a security response. I can touch it with my ship and never saw any message. I never saw anything to scan or any object other than that odd mountain I'm apparently not allowed to check out via my SRV. Anyone else check this out or know why I can't get closer on the ground?

I don't see the screenshot I thought I took with the coordinates but its a POI on W Ursae Majoris AB1

I saw a message about trespassing and high-tailed it for my ship. I didn't get closer to see what would happen. It would have been my first battle (and a short one) in an SRV if anything did show up. I almost wish I checked it out but I wasn't sure if the SRV died... the ship died too.

I left to try to find what I needed for a FSD upgrade. I'll have to head back tomorrow and check it out. After looking in several craters on other planets, I've found the same 'mountain' but haven't gotten down with my SRV to see if I get the same response for checking it out.

Generally speaking, only surface skimmers come up if you trigger the defense alarm with an SRV. And your SRV can be destroyed....you'll just spawn back in your ship, sans one SRV. No big deal. Skimmers are also easily defeated, even in the SRV. I've taken on four at a time, easy.

The defense perimeter is also maybe a square kilometer. Not very big. You should be able to go around the area and check out whats beyond pretty easy.
