Newcomer / Intro So i was stupid enough to try to change my system...

I always thought these dashed lines tell me that I can't make the single jump with a full cargo and this in no related to fuel but to jump range - and that hold true everytime. So where did you got that information from?

Depends on dashed lines without setting a route, and dashed lines once a route is set. Dashed lines along the mapped route means you need to refuel. Default dashed lines from your current location with no route set is telling you that you can make it depending on mass (ie how much cargo you carry).

I just tested in game and you might be right. I may be misremembering one of the changes they made just before release.

So that's it. Thanks for confirming that!

Thanks InfiniteGremlins thats what i wanted to know... was wondering what the dashed lines mean anyway

bitstorm - i was trying to get from LHS 3447 my starting sys to V1688 Aquilae

and before you state that - my "NO" stations on the way i said to get the answer i wanted ..

You have me intrigued. My sidewinder is in LHS 3447, so I'll head over there and see how I'd get to V1688 Aquilae. Just because I do this sort of thing, I'll even record it, and put it on YouTube.

Are there any special modifications you made to your ship? I'd like to do it as you are configured.

Wish me luck!

Commander Leslie

There are no empty systems that I've found so far. Every one of them has planets, asteroid belts and what not - many have hidden stations too.

I decided to get away from my starter system with my slightly upgraded Eagle. I picked a system at random and went forth. After a couple of jumps, I started to worry because after each jump I would hit my DScanner to see what's in the system...and found NOTHING in the system but the star. This happened on three systems in a row and I was then stuck in an empty system with no fuel scoop. I self-destructed and learned a lesson.

EDIT: my new home system for now is LFT 1448 and I regularly trade and do missions with V1688 Aquilae.

I believe solid light blue/grey lines indicate you have the jump range to travel between systems with current cargo - dashed lines indicate you can't currently make the jump, but could if you lost some mass.

Fuel use is indicated by orange lines once you've plotted a route - solid orange means you can get there with the fuel currently in your tank, and dashed orange mean it's along the route but you'll have to stop and either scoop or buy fuel to get beyond that point.

Hope this helps!

I will say that like a few other things in this game, running out of fuel is a joke and handled quite poorly. I guess in the 34th century they decided to do away with that archaic idea of roadside assistance. Why would you want to just pick up the phone and call for a tow truck when instead you could simply kill yourself and blow up your expensive ship and cargo? The universe is full of people looking to make a buck but nobody wants to charge you an arm and a leg to bring you out some fuel or tow your crippled ship to a station? It's idiotic.

In a word: Pirates.

To call for assistance you would alert everyone else you needed it. A distress beacon would bring unwanted attention for sure. Space is so big I don't think there is any other way but a broadcast for help, and that means everyone gets the alert, good guys or bad guys.

Your discovery scanner has limited range (unless you pack the advanced one), so it may not discover everything in the system from the jump point. However, stations are always visible on your navigation pane (left UI pane, "1" key by default), even if you can't detect the planet that station orbits.

Well damn, that's easier than the way I was doing it. Thanks for the tip!

Are you locking target on the system you want to jump to on the NAV panel?

Is the blue dot in the centre of the upper right cross hair before you jump and your ship aligned with the system you are jumping to?

Do you know you can use the jump system in system (to travel between stations etc)

If all of the above, why are you letting your fuel run all the way out before refueling? In the starting sindwinder you can probably make around 35L of jumps before running out of fuel (even though you can only jump around 6-7L at a time).

Make a jump, refuel carry on.
