General / Off-Topic So I watched a flat Earth video or two.

The guys producing these videos are far from ignorant or stupid. They are throwing down current theories of astronomy and physics all over over the place. Then debunking them, quite convincingly. Especially in one video there is a U2 pilot that filmed the horizon from so high up the sky went black, no curve. Flat as your post 2008 screens. I'm not convinced, possibly clever editing. Very talented video makers for sure and with a seemly huge distrust of NASA. If anything entertaining. I hope they're wrong it will kinda ruin Elite for me otherwise.

Flat earthers are actually really pathetic, i take them about as seriously as David Icke and Alex Jones, that said, OP is right about how entertaining it can be to watch their videos. Almost as deluded (perhaps more so) than religious people......Edit: flat earthers are worse than religiious folks, then again there are probably no Atheist flat earthers so i guess we can lump them all in the same bracket. Second Edit: Flat Earthers are funnier than religious folks because flat Earthers are just a little less dangerous. Third Edit: When i say dangerous i mean the ideology/religion, rather than everyone, i know there are good religious people and i'm sure flat earthers are a friendly bunch.

Possibly clever editing? The flat earthers are completely wrong and lying to you, but so are the round earthers. It's a massive conspiracy and both the flat and round earthers are in on it, pretending their is controversy and keeping the people oppressed.

The earth is obviously a cube. Try my belly button logic!

If flat earth were true then our skys would need to be facked as well as all space missions and how do you explain those that drive/sail completely around the planet.

They're obsessive attention seekers who started off thinking we should only believe it when we see it with our own eyes and if you have only theory then any opposing theories are also valid. Sadly there's been so many botches in truth with video from Space that it does give rise to conspiracy.

What better forum than Elite Dangerous to discuss this revival. I have one thing in their defense. They are not dumb or ignorant. They know all the theories. It's the NASA thing they refuse to believe.

They are not stupid if you watch the videos they break all the real science down in an actually clever and compelling way. Hurling insults at them and assuming they are ignorant is just not an accurate description of them. Some of the producers have thought a lot about it. I was actually stunned by the sheer workload that has gone into their little (not so little actually) cult.

A good salesman can sell just about anything...look at the guy who sold plots on the moon a few years back on ebay fer future building prospects before the american government waded into it to put a stop to it. Guy still walked away a self made millionaire because so many bought into it without asking how this random guy could own the moon in the first place.

His sales pitch appealed to the ethos of 'one born every minute' and it worked like a charm. I see just about all religion in this way...its sorta sad but many others will disagree.

A good salesman could sell snow to an eskimo...gift of the gab is not to be underestimated ^

The Earth isn't flat.
We're all plugged into a virtual reality called The Matrix.
When you travel to the edge of the rendered world, the system tiles the far side of the generated landscape to create a seamless transition as you move instantly from one side of the landscape to the other.

(I don't actually believe this, I was using it to illustrate the point that we all have an opinion)

The biggest flaw (apart from it being obviously wrong) in the flat earth theory is the motivation. Why the hell would someone make such a huge effort to pretend that a flat earth is round? And don't come with "For the lulz".

Up until the 1960 and 70s and even a few in the 80s and today still believe the moon was made of cheese, and humanity was influenced by lizard men who live underground who evolved from dinosaurs who didnt go extinct.

The videos explaining these theories are detailed and look 100% genuine...even after the makers stated it was a joke, some who fell fer it refused to accept it was a joke and went onto make their own videos about the same damned thing...

Humans...gotta love em ^
