So, i went looking for the lich system...

PSR 1251+12 real life system of small planets orbiting a pulsar. I was disapointed that it was not to be found, however i tryed widening my search. What i found was that if you put exact names in you get nothing but if you just try searching PSR you get trasported to a place very far below the plane where there are a group of PSR stars, however when the map actually focuses on them they are not there. Explanations?..

This is where the search takes me... whats that red dot then?

In the image below the stars are moving as the map zooms this is why they look oddly placed. Im going to assume they are all pulsars because of PSR

So what are these systems and if they are simply out of bounds why are there even there in the first place? All those pulsars bunched up like that.

Edit: here you go ill chuck this in for free :)

Nice link, thanks for sharing :)
There are some systems so deep below the galactic plane, that you fin them only with typing the name but the map moves up so fast, that you just get a small eye-catch of them. You would need a 2500ly jumprange to reach 'em xD
Nobody knows why they are even there, maybe because realism and immershuun

The reason why you can't focus on them on the galactic map is because they are beyond the limit of 10,000 Ly which the gal map operates. So what happens is that you focus on them and then the map takes you to the nearest 10,000 Ly boundary.

I have no idea what they are doing there, whether they are by choice or because of a bug. But they are not invisible. Just out of the normal boundaries which the map can show.

That you that went there CMDR Sapporo? Impressive. What is the jump range required and can you actually get those systems on the map?

One of the two Commanders had a birthday, and as a birthday present, Frontier teleported them there in the beta that was going on at the time.

I didn't go there, Giraffe did. That was in the beta and they asked the devs to teleport them there. It's impossible to reach (unless you find a way to jump ~15'000 LY).

The lich system is way out of position, it should be approx 2300ly from earth. I bet the rest are aswell, what are they doing all the way down there? Very strange :)

The group of pulsars belongs to the globular cluster of 47 Tucanae. The cluster is known to have more than 25 millisecond-pulsars among other oddities. No idea why they are in the game, though. Maybe FDev wanted to have them as reference for something.

Maybe a placeholder for future C&P system ? If you're naughty you're teleported to these systems with all your belongings, a kind of Absolum 3022 [cool]

Ok I'm already out :D

Frontier imported entire catalogues of stars when they could into the game (after making necessary conversions and such, I imagine), and these must have been added among the others in one. As such, actually removing these unreachables (excluding them from the import) would have taken a bit more effort than just letting them stay in would have.
Plus they might have even provided convenient engine test locations, for rendering the galaxy on the skybox. No need to add testing systems way above the galaxy when the catalogue import already did it for you!

Yes it is and i was going to go look but it turns out its just outside the bubble and im far past that area atm. It would be an ideal target for a new explorer looking to a reason to go somewhere.

Thx for looking up the good info people :) 47 Tucanae is still only 13000-15000ish ly away, there isnt really any reason for these stars to be outside the map. The map itself zooms past them so i dont think its the limit of the map.

Edit: https://www.universetoday.com/14380/closer-to-the-heart-47-tucanae/ Maybe the star density is more than then engine can handle

Edit2: Is it just outside the bubble? i might be getting confused with NN serpentis. So many stars :) ill check next time im in game

Lich is about 2 or 3 Kylies I believe. I'll have a go at visiting some time - I've run out of J3 and I'm otherwise preoccupied so it won't be immediately though. I will certainly post pics for the mapping project when I do!
