So if I buy and Eagle...

Can I sell my 'free' sidewinder when I take purchase of the new ship? If not, what happens to the sidewinder? I have no hangar space so I am wondering how this works.

Also, thanks to the Gentleman who posted the most excellent video on YouTube about the importance of insurance. I will be factoring that in (2-3 lots of insurance) along with increased shielding and one decent hardpoint.

I've checked the FAQs but may have missed this information. Many thanks for direction on this.

You currently get no refund for the ship you are selling, and once you've bought the new ship, the old one is gone.

Best you can do is sell all the kit on your current ship manually before going and buying your new ship.

Of course, this isn't how it will be at release.

In the current release, the previous ship is lost and no money is made from its sale.

However, I'm fairly sure that in the next release they will have fixed this so that you get the trade in price for the previous ship and weapons.

The Sidewinder (and its weapon) are both on loan - buying another ship is your "first" purchase.

The bugged bit is that if you upgrade from an Eagle to a Cobra (for example) you get nothing for your Eagle (you should, of course, get a trade-in value for your existing purchased ship)....

.... and, as has already been mentioned, remember to sell all weapons and sensors that you have added to your ship and revert to basic bulkheads (you can't sell these, you have to trade down for your refund) - or you will lose the lot on the sale of the vessel (at the moment, I'm confident that it will be fixed in due course).

Thanks for all of the great responses chaps.

Well, a bit more time in the conflict zones and some trade runs for me then. Will be making sure that I can buy the Eagle with survivable loadout and plenty of insurance money.

Thanks again.

I can't remember how the original Elite worked, but it would make sense to be able to purchase more than 1 ship. So if you were wanting to have spells of trading and fighting you could change over ships at your port of choice to avoid the hassle of re-configuring weapons etc.

Maybe you could pay a docking rent for the extra ship/s ?.

Eventually we will have hangers that we can rent to store our other ships in.

I don't think that is a bug. The trade-in on your old ship just hasn't been implemented yet.

When the game is complete we will be able to own 3 ships I believe.
