So... Is it too soon to ask for a Mamba canopy on the Fer de Lance?

Because I'd love to see the framework removed on the Ferdie, replaced with the same curved glass as a Mamba has installed.
I've requested a feature like this for a Saud Kruger variant for ages, but, heck, just go for it with the ZPG model.
And if it kept the same or similar roof frame, and just made the canopy a swept, raked pane anchored to existing sill and roof line (just remodelled slightly to match the curves), then it would still be stylistically distinct from the Mamba.

On the topic of giving an older ship an art pass, would other players here be for it or against it?
Some possibilities:

Asp Scout wing removal (placed in a shipkit)
T6, T7 height reduction, by the smallest of margins, to get them onto smaller pads.
Removal of T10 spoiler (Replace it with something that looks more obviously like a sensor bar, i think)
Removal of Imperial Eagle spoiler (because, why?) (move it to a shipkit)
Removing or tidying cabling in brand new ships, in particular DeLacy ships. (maybe this can become a kit? or maybe becomes progressively more prominent with repairs, needing aclean-up from time to time? Like paint wear)
-Any other well known needless annoyances/incongruences.

Interesting ideas, however I think you underestimate the amount of work that goes in to designing and building these ships. It's not like playing with Lego.

I don't mean this as sarcasm but, has any ship had it's model changed after release?

I fear that, for example, people complaining about stuff like the weapon-convergence on the Mamba are on a hiding to nothing because I doubt FDev are going to physically move the hardpoints on the model.
At best, we're probably only going to get some of the stat's twiddled to reduce jitter and/or increase the FoF slightly.

As I said, I honestly don't recall any ship getting it's model revised after launch.
It's as if FDev outsource their 3D modelling so once a model's been approved there's nobody around who can change it.

So, no. I doubt the FdL is going to get the Mamba's cockpit any time soon.

Also, it'd kind of be taking the pee to present a ship which is supposed to be a competitor for the FdL but which doesn't actually come anywhere near the FdL in any meaningful way and then take it's one redeeming feature and give that to the FdL too. [sad]

*EDIT*

I vaguely recall that a ship has had a hatch of some kind added to it post-production (the SLF bay on the Keelback?) but presumably that'd just mean adding the hatch to what was previously a flat area of the model so it wasn't like anything had to be redesigned.

The anaconda got extra cockpit windows added after olivia vapsera posted a thread earlier this year about there being 0a discrepancy between the number of windows visible on the outside and those that could be seen through from inside the cockpit, lots of little ships got stilts added to their undercarriage at 2.0 to allow them to land and deploy an SRV. some of the ship kits have been fettled, and there have been various tweeks to models to remove/reduce clipping. But nothing like the new canopy for an existing ship that stealthie is asking for.

in all honesty whilst i asked for the viper mkiv interior i do not expect it and i am not really complaining......BUT of all the cut and paste jobs however the viper mkiv is the most egregious of them all, because unlike the asp scout/ex or DB scout/Ex it is meant to be a different mark....... (like the cobra mk 1 to mk3 for instance).

(even the Federal Drop/gun/assault ships have tiny little changes to give a little character and the cobra mk IV which a load of players will never get to see had some love on the lighting and livery colours too

to answer your question..

the Anaconda got an "upgrade" when muticrew launched (i say "upgrade" because i preferred it as it was, i think (just a feeling, no proof) this was more a simplification to improve performance when running on potatos... shame high end machines suffered too)

The Eagle had a canopy upgrade on or around launch (may have been just before i am not sure)

***edit... ok time flies it seems the eagle cockpit update was way earlier than i thought
https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...son_of_the_current_eagle_cockpit_and_the/****

and various ships had seat upgrades etc (the imperial ships are on seat design #3, going from the generic seat, to a white version of generic seat to the swish one they have now)

I pointed that out ages ago...

Hmm...

Seems like most of the changes to models have either been "fixes" or attempts to reduce polygon-count.

I think I'm right in saying they've never modified the extrnal model of a ship as a result of beta-feedback.
Like, for example, if a bunch of people complained that the Clipper weapons have lousy convergence, FDev haven't gone away and moved the hardpoints to a different part of the model.

T9 got a SLF bay added, FAS got some changes to it's interior (removing red highlights), Keelback got a second seat installed, Anaconda got a rather extensive redesign of it's interior
