So, is this game just too stupid?

I'm leaving a station for only the 5th time as I just started playing. I use Autolaunch, just like every other time. It puts me in a queue, even though there is no one else around. Queue time runs out, and the station fines me, then kills me. Now it puts me very far away from where I was.

If this is the stupidity I can expect, please let me know so I don't waste anymore time...

ty in advance.

Yes. Waiting in a queue is a bit silly.

You should have just flown out manually.

Every day's a school day I guess.

Yeah, I thought similar during my first hours of the game, too... now look at me.

… what am I looking at here?

The starports can be very dangerous for new commanders ! Would advise going manual for a while to get familiar with them. Better to lose the sidewinder and get used to the rebuy process at the start as well too. Being destroyed early can be a bonus !

So, what your saying is autolaunch is not "auto"? And then when the auto doesn't work, the station, who put me there, kills me?

So, the game is too stupid then...

Guess this is $29 wasted.
Yes, it's stupid that it does that; a feature like that should work as intended and not cause you to get blown up for getting you stuck in a queue, and no "learn to fly" isn't, at least IMO, a good response to give a new player like you that's been mindlessly blown up by a station for a queueing issue. For me at least I've found that the fun to be had outweighs the annoyances, especially after getting more cockpit time.

A workaround could be using autolaunch to get you lifted off and aligned with the mail slot, then moving out and towards the slot on your own to jump the queue if needed. If you zero out your throttle any time before you leave the auto launch will re-engage and (hopefully) set you right if you are having trouble. Also beware of autodock - it's notorious for getting people blown up, especially in large ships. Much more so than auto launch.

Sadly some of the places it fails most ...is in the starter systems. Because there are more people around they tend to get jammed up. Pretty rare outside of those systems for it to fail ... well maybe in busy Open systems like around engineer bases.

Sorry Sir, but everyone is entitled to have fun their own way.

OP is having a blast with the auto computers. 😉

Joke aside, they are only worth using if you can already fly your ship, so that you can babysit the auto computer and take over whenever it begins to destroy your ship. I never said, "don't ever use them". Only that OP should learn to land and unlock so he can avoid auto computers destroying his ships.

OP can't be blamed for being frustrated by the game failing to execute a very simple task that it claims to be able to do, and then making him pay for it.

I just expect in game mechanics to work. If a simple auto-launch system screws up within my first 5 launches, what other stupidity can I expect from the game? This is not a newly released game, bugs like that shouldn't still be around. And if it's not a bug, but by design, then I'm guessing this is not the game for me. Programmed stupidity is worse than bugs, imho.

TY all for your responses. Time to go

A lot. 🤣

Time to go

If you want to fly spaceships, you really should stick to it. ED really is worth it. The bugs and issues aren't game breaking, they're just minor irritations. Once you are aware of them, they are more comical than angering. Plenty of CMDRs here and around that will help you get things sorted.

That being said, if you aren't really into flight games or spaceships . . . run.
