So is what Anaconda and T9 look like in Virtual Reality!!

I prefer the eagle for exactly the opposite reason it feels like an F1 car, like you're at one with the ship. Plus all the menu's are up close enhancing the snug feel. It's unique among all the vessels.

The Eagle is great in VR I agree! The reason the menus look so far away in the above videos is because I was standing quite a way behind the pilot seat.

Eagle was the first ship I tried in VR, definitely agree that it is one of the best feelings due to the fighter Jet style cockpit. Still it's the big ships that really blow your mind in VR, just the sheer size of the bridges and that sense of vertigo.

So does play with an Oculus just automatically allow you more freedom of translation of your viewpoint? Or did you have to tweak some config files to allow you to get all the way behind the pilot's seat? I've found using a TrackIR the game allows me very little translation...

You just stand up and then get creeped out by the headless body sitting in the chair... no special tweaks needed

If you've got a machine good enough to do it (or rich enough to upgrade twice to use DK2 and again for CV1), do it. I had a friend over at the weekend to try it and his conclusion was "I don't think I've been playing the same game"

Yeah, that too. I know I'm ok in space, but in station, I'd have to check FPS. I think I'm below 75 in station, but I'm running 3 screen at 5760x1080. I don't think I'd gain many FPS by going one screen 1920x1080, but I could experiment.

Apologies to OP for slight thread jack.

I spent about 3 hours the other night on a nerd binge of watching a bunch of first impressions of playing E: D with the rift and DK2. I can safely say that as soon as there are competitive commercially available stereoscopic 3d head sets I will be getting one for this game.

This was probably the overall funniest and best of all the ones I watched.

Warning: language and political incorrectness.

I'm going to filter threads and only read Driver's comments on the DK to see if it makes me want one enough. I had decided to wait for CV, but they announced it won't come until "Q1 2016", which could mean March, which almost a year off. :(

Link to announcement ( http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/buying-advice/gadget/3522990/oculus-rift-release-date-specs-features/ )

Best thing to do is head over to the VR forum. If you are in London, you can try mine, I brought it with me. Here for 2-3 months

It's also possible that the Valve VR will be as good as the Rift, or better. Hopefully Elite will also support that headset...or maybe Valve and Oculus will have a common SDK system...which would be nice.

Thank you kindly for the offer. I'm in the states, but you're probably on target that I need to just find a place to try one out and see if it's "worth it" to me. You'd think that some major game shops or Best Buy / Fry's electronics stores would have one to try, but no.

I can't stand Mathas as a LPer but his first impressions were really good too.

Aren't FDev over there for a show?

It's strange that no where demo's the Rift. That said I guess it is early days yet.

Sometimes electronic exchange shops will carry a Rift, might be worth checking if you have a local store like that. We have a chainstore in the UK called CEX who exchange all sorts of gadgets, and quite often they carry a Rift.

Looks amazing! I wonder though in my case the older VR systems gave me a massive headache and some motion sickness although I am not prone to it. Is the Rift that much more advanced? Guess I would need to try one out as well, but I am hesitant because I don't want the kind of headache ever again..

P.S. Love your exploration vid's :)

Thanks Arjin! :)

Motion sickness can still be a problem with the DK2. I don't get it in Elite, as I am sitting inside a ship and the ship stays still whilst the environment moves past. I wouldn't have thought this would have made much difference, but apparently the difference is huge. Kinda like being in a car or on an airplane. Whilst the airplane is in motion...you remain in the same position in relation to the airplane. Apparently the current unreleased developer release of the Rift doesn't have much of an issue regarding this, and I've heard the HTC Vive doesn't have it at all. So waiting for the retail versions of VR is probably a very good idea. :)

Cool thanks for the heads up, retail wait it is. :)
