So I've moved to the PS4 (for now... I'll be back!)

I have a friend who bought ED for the PS4 and so I bought it on that platform as well so I could join him (I also expect my much younger brother to get it in the next year, so that was another reason for another copy). So anyone who knows me on the PC platform won't be seeing me for a while. It might be days or weeks or months depending on how long it takes him to burn out on it ;)

But I will be back to the PC.

Don't get me wrong, the PS4 version is playing fine, but daymn do I miss my peripherals. No voice attack? No head tracking? Short of getting VR, those two of the most immersive parts of the game.

Fortunately, I have a TFlight 4 stick for the PC, so I am able to use that on the PS4. I had some trouble mapping it at first, to match my PC setup exactly, until I realized I needed to turn off the feature that shows you the button layout if you hold X or O or the other buttons down (which prevented me from using them as, for example, maneuvering thruster buttons).

Actually, in the process I learned 10 new button combinations I could do which I can hopefully use back when I eventually go back to the PC!

Anyway, I'm happy with how the PS4 version performs overall (would probably be more so if I had a Pro) but I already miss my PC ;)

What a silly idea...

You spend £40 to play with your friend?

Why in god's name didn't you just get your friend to spend about £800 to play in the PC?

Logic people. Use your logic!

:p

Have fun CMDR! See you on the BGS I guess! :D

CMDR Cosmic Spacehead

He probably spent more than that per a paintjob to impress his friend! Meanwhile the PS4 version is pretty darn cool so it may be awhile before his return. One negative is playing on the PS4 connected to my TV I cannot watch it or stream Star Trek: TNG episodes to it while I was playing on the PC. Could stream them to the PC but might give me network lags on the PS4. For now I'm into "Talk Radio"!

It all depends on how my friend likes it. It's hard to predict what he'll love or hate.

As as good as the PS4 version is, and the fun I'm having starting over with a new CMDR, I miss my head tracking and voice attack features (and better resolution) :D

You're failing to convince me to get a PS4. LOL I'll stick with my Vive, HOTAS and VoiceAttack for now.

Well, I'm just being honest. I mean, why would you move to the PS4 if you already have a great PC setup and a good friends list? Ah, the things I do for my PC-less friends ;)

But it goes to show that those peripherals do help make the game for me. However, I think it's great that the HOTAS works perfectly (once you disable the mapping display feature) so the transition is seemless for me, other than the lack of head tracking...

However, if they introduced VR support? Wow. That would be sweet.

You don't need head tracking. Just tilt your controller.

I'm using a HOTAS - Thrustmaster T-Flight 4.

I tried using the Dualshock controller for a bit - that headlook is nice, but not as natural and useful as head tracking. But for those just using the controller (like most PS4 players no doubt) it's a great feature. As is using the trackpad like a mouse.

That would be a serious game changer definately moving towards the PS4 plus the already established immersive audio/video/live player interaction that the PC doesn't have in real time without adding options. We PC players have to spend a lot and tweak everything to get it right. If Frontier gets it right it is a simple plug-n-play for many millions to goto VR. If the sales are there you can bet the farm that VoiceAttack and others will be looking to add to the PS4 experience.

Yes, the Sony VR is not as good as the Oculus or others. But we are again talking Betamax for quality versus VHS for the masses. You know how that turned out. Sony is going to make millions on this initial release and I bet the PS4 VR will be released in December 2017 just in time for the holidays. Go figure. Any bets?

By the way, anyone who's friended me on the PC version (as Mossfoot) who is also playing the PS4, my handle is MossfootX over there ;)
