Reading the reports from alpha testers, it seems that a joystick is better for this than mouse. On the other hand, a joystick - if I'd get one - would be useful for this, possibly star citizen, and... that's about it.
So I'm looking into the cheaper sticks, and frankly I'm way out of my depth here. Some of you might be more knowledgeable about these things, so my question is - is there any budget-range joystick/thingie that would be reasonably "good" to buy for use in playing elite? Reading on the web about them.. well, best way to put it would be to say that for almost every model, opinions are drastically split, and when some claim it's good, others deride it as cheap rubbish. What would your suggestions be? Are there even any that would be good?
In fact, let's talk about how to even use those things - Right now, I'm thinking it would replace the mouse while playing, with the other hand on the keyboard as usual - but then again there are the joysticks with throttles, so that's two-handed control.. But then again, that leaves a lot less buttons to work with, and elite - at least later on, with trading and galaxy maps - would definitely need a lot of buttons/hotkeys, right? Or am I missing some aspects here?
One more thing.. I can't help but observe that joysticks seem a lot more expensive, in terms of what you get, than mice. Is there a reason for this, or am I being wrong again?
