So, large ships can launch fighters.....but how do those fighters dock back with the carrier?

How do you think it will work?

I can't see it being a one way trip with no landing, but with no turntable how would a Condor dock with an Anaconda...reverse in?

Either:
A) Magic
B) Reverse in

Or C) Every re-launch you get fired out backwards spinning in a confused manner like after an interdiction to the hilarity of any nearby observers :p

Edit: Oh come on whiterose, asif you ninja'd me on magic! Not cool! :p

Why would you think no turntable exists in the Conda's docking bay? The Anaconda has approach lighting built into the hull, that would suggest docking would be flown forward facing.

Edit - Apologies, I took these in VR a while back.

The side of the ship has what looks like massive doors to the hanger. The launch area (at the front below the bridge) Has apparoach lighting (not lit) And arrows directing the ship towards to hanger

Arrows leading to docking bay, and what looks like two rows of lead in lights that will activate when in use

Valet parking. Hey... if ya have the cash for such a big ship... investing in a personal (robot?) valet is small change. :) Just don't forget to pay a tip, or your sidewinder may end up keyed and hydraulic fluid flushed from the landing gear... and/or you may find lubricant on the back seat.

Oh my sweet lord.....such detail in the model I never knew existed! Flying into that is going to be amazing.

I only thought a turntable might not be there due to space restrictions in the hold. But seeing all that makes me think that turning around is possible after all.

I forgot about this image....it seems launching on rails...

I can see a turntable fitting just fine in that image. The platform raises into the Anacondas hold and turns just like a station would.

Hmmm... wonder how mad the Conda owner would be if you could self destruct say your Condor or Sidey inside the bay and destroy said Conda. Would be a new profession - mole/suicide saboteur.

Turntable as stated and also - what does it matter if you come out backwards? Sounds like fun lol, particularly in Oculus.

Try and troll your friends - launch them in the fighter while flying over a planet but don't tell them you turned the thrusters off the last time you were in it.

Well personally I'm hoping for some new ships, e.g. carriers to carry multiple ships.

Love the idea of having a group of friends, one of which has a carrier, the rest with say Vipers. Give the carrier some serious range capability, let it jump to a point say one jump from the enemy group. Drops his 10 friends off, carrier leaves to a safe location another jump point away. Fighters jump to target location, and then meet up when finished. I see that being the combat version.

For that matter, there's no reason why you shouldn't also have an equivalent for colonisation of future stars, with dropships taking down say living accomodation (part of Horizons please). Also gives the need for food, fuel and other runs to and from the carrier group.

B) Reverse in

Actually wouldn't be too difficult if you could somehow look backwards. Or you fly in forward facing and then make a delicate turn inside the Anaconda. Would require a little bit of skill and perhaps better mothership/calf coordination This would almost get my vote.

Turning tables at utterly unnecessary in stations and just graphical fluff. You could easily lift up a few meters and turn around towards the exit in the "indoor stations" and in outposts it is just pointless.

A new HUD widget could let you back in just using instruments, in any case combat landings are going to be very interesting.

I wonder if there'll be a new rotational correction mode that kicks when you've requested landing from the mothership, that'll attempt to automatically maintain relative positions even if the mothership is maneuvering.

I'm hoping it will be just like station docking, but in extremely close quarters (little holo and everything), a turn table should just spin you about for the next launch.

It would be great if you flew forwards into your mothership as "normal" and were grabbed by some kind of docking clamps from the roof of the docking bay.

Then when you were launched you were "dropped" out of the ship - in a "Aliens" dropship kind of way.
