So, large ships can launch fighters.....but how do those fighters dock back with the carrier?

zero chance anyone docks with my conda without a docking computer.
If it gets damaged in battle... well, hope you brought some MREs for the trip home :)

Considering there are no restriction on driving slow and / or holding still in space, I don't see what the problem is. Just drive back into the hole.

yeah, that make sense. and generally nothing wrong with plunging them back by cargo-scoope-alike device(but operated automatically/autonomously).

Four of the five ships that can launch fighters (Keelback, Federal Gunship, Corvette, Anaconda) have visible fighter bays. I suspect they'll work the same way the SRV does: The fighter will line up below the mothership, mechanical arms will reach down to grab it and pull it up.

The Imperial Cutter also has a fighter bay, but it's hidden under smooth plating ... the Empire does not approve of function without beautiful shiny form ;)

Why would you think no turntable exists in the Conda's docking bay? The Anaconda has approach lighting built into the hull, that would suggest docking would be flown forward facing.

Edit - Apologies, I took these in VR a while back.

The side of the ship has what looks like massive doors to the hanger. The launch area (at the front below the bridge) Has apparoach lighting (not lit) And arrows directing the ship towards to hanger

Arrows leading to docking bay, and what looks like two rows of lead in lights that will activate when in use

OMG I have to lay off the whiskey, I already see double :p

Aren't ship-launched fighters going to be controlled by AI? Otherwise the main ship would be left on autopilot.

At some previous point fdev has stated that a single player could either stay in the primary ship and let the AI control the fighter, or could deploy in the fighter and let the AI control the main ship. At the time I thought it would be crazy to let the AI fly the main ship, but with the path we're on it's not out of the question that by the time Fighters is released that the AI will be a better combat pilot than me. So I'll get in the fighter just so my ship has a fighting chance! ;)

Hehe, I already consider the new AI a better combat pilot than me. If the fact that my Python now considers a mere Cobra Mk III a challenge :p

But I want to see it primarily so I can fly the fighter around. The ships that can launch fighters all have the maneuverability of a lethargic sloth, so being able to stretch my legs a little and behave like a crack addict firefly will be a nice change of pace ;)
